Yesterday I got to do a ballistics gel test with my Barra 250z in 22cal. I did these test at 10 yards on a full fill. My Barra is completely stock. It's set at 2100psi. My tank was full as well.
I started with the 30gr varmintknockers and worked my way down in weight. I noticed the lower weights had less penetration. I had 8 slugs expand and stay inside my gel. The slugs I couldn't capture were the takeaim slugs, Griffin 30gr dish hp, 30gr patriots slug gen 2, the 28.5gr NSA Slug. The 8 that I captured are the Varmintknockers, 30gr gen 1 patriot, all 26gr that I tested. The 26gr Griffin, franco and gen and gen 2 patriots, the 28gr jts and lastly the 24gr bthp Griffin. The 24gr Griffin surprised me because in my water test it held pretty well together it just didn't expand very much at all it was 6.2mm my gel test yeileded 9.8mm of expansion on top of it fragmenting! The polymer ball that's inserted in the 24gr bthp seperated at the 2.5" mark. Now the TakeAim was surprising but not in a good way. After my water test I thought I would capture it but it went through the whole block. All 8 slugs expanded past 9mm the highest being the JTS 28gr at 11.2mm! I hope this helps you guys out if your hunting. I'd like to try some of these on some iguanas soon.
