250Z Barra 250z .25 first time pcp owner.

I say this as I am in the middle of changing out some leaking O-rings…if you have the time to keep all of them up to snuff, well more power to you 👍.
Not a lot of maintenance required. I get them, test them, change all the reasonable orings and they are usually good for a few years.

Other than the Invader, I broke it a couple years ago and it has only ever worked as a bolt action since.

Gotta get the Hartley and Falcon out. The British lovelies need to be fondled and fired.

So party at your house??!?

So party at your house??!?
Yesterday was our first big (100+ people) BBQ and open house since covid. I smoked 15 racks of award winning ribs, 16lbs of chicken thighs, 16lbs of tritips. Started the smoker at 2am with ribs on around3:3:30am. On Wednesday i did 20lbs of smoked Carnitas and 10lbs of smoked pulled chicken for Tacos. 5lbs of coleslaw with homemade KFC style dressing. Several pounds of chopped onions, tomatoes and jalapenos.

So yeah, when we need a BBQ party it all starts here. Of course all the neighbors will want in as usual and maybe the Mayor and a few of her staff depending on schedule...

I don’t know about you but I can’t take it with me is how I feel about it sometimes, but other days I’m like @&$? What have I got myself into 🤪.

I told my wife today that I’m not looking at any more Airguns for the rest of the year. She just rolled her eyes and said that I was telling her stories (in her own sweet and loving way, that I cannot print here lol).
First mistake was telling your wife.

Finally got the plenum on the barra and holy crap. Literally had to drop the reg down 500psi to get the same 915fps speed as I was getting at 2500psi.

Currently working my way through all the light weight stuff until I’m out so it’ll be awhile before I do a full power test.

Currently shooting the 33gr Franco’s at 905fps with the reg at 2300psi or so. Haven’t done a full shot count yet but from 3500psi-2500psi I got 35 shots. So yeah it’s gonna be a lot of shots haha.

Now you see why I play with plenums?
So much power left on the table by manufacturers.

Oh yes sir. Ask some of these dudes around here and they’ll tell you I’ve been obsessed with a bigger plenum on the Barra for almost as long as I’ve had it…. I already have a bigger plenum in the works for the EQ too… I’m fully on your side of the equation now 😂😂

One of these days I'm going to delve into math I have not used in 50 years and figure out the basics for plenums on poppet valve guns. Maybe put a small app together to input the variables and calculate some approximation of optimal plenum size.

Have you played with spring rates on your poppet valve? My guess is that a lighter spring may allow for a larger plenum and more efficient use of air. Keep the poppet open longer. Not sure about that because I don't have a gun with multiple size plenums.

Too light a spring would be *leaky*. But longer dwell means more air to keep the pellet under acceleration.

Bigger transfer port could be effective too just from a volume standpoint. Maybe oval with the short side perpendicular to the barrel length.

May need to buy a 250z just to scratch another engineering itch.

So my 250z is just about as modded out as you can get. I opened the transfer and exhaust port up to 4.5mm. 4.71mm is probably optimal for a .25 cal but that size makes it very hard to load slugs. I didn’t do the block because it would require retapping and I didnt feel like doing that and the machine shop I work at are exclusively Swiss turning so no way I’m getting it done with a Deco-10 lol.

I have the slug power kit in but I use the factory spring with the brass weight. I have tested it and the weight gives the equivalent of like 5 turns on the factory setup.

Regulator has been polished and rebuilt. The barrel indexed. Hammer spring assembly and poppet valve assembly both relubed. Oh and the valves were polished up after porting.

Before adding the plenum I found that this gun responded best to high pressure on the reg and very little dwell. Just a quick slap. The nice thing about the gun is that massive barrel so with the 28-32gr slugs I just let the barrel do the work. I topped it out at 68fpe with a 32gr slug at 980fps or so.

I’ve barely touched the gun in the past couple months due to being dumb, kinda frustrated and distracted by the EQ haha. But I just out it on last night so I haven’t experimented yet. Right now I’m just using the plenum to maximize shots per fill. The barra is no longer my coyote gun, especially since I shot a coyote with the EQ this weekend. So it’s got a 45y zero on it, a cheapo Bushnell 3-9 scope and that effortless 60fpe and 40-50 a fill will suit me just fine for now haha.

It’s not gonna last though as I’m already almost out of the 33gr since once I started shooting I couldn’t stop last night haha.

How's the g30? Just traded my swarm 8x for an sl30, but am thinking about getting a bigger bottle right off the bat, since I'm sure the things are air hungry.

Bigger bottle is a must on an SL30 as it just dumps air. I've got a 580cc bottle on mine to keep her fed.
That's what I thought. I did some reading and im like 2800 reg, 100+ fpe, that's gotta be eating up air. So glad I got a compressor.

Im still determined to dial in this barra before I start in on the gauntlet though. I want to find the utilitarian "perfect slug weight" for it, lock in the settings, and let it eat.

That 30 will be nice for coyote season that's for dang sure, once I dial it in, and familiarize myself with it.

I just wish that when kitted out, she wasn't so danged heavy for carrying in the field. On the bench it's great!

See, I got a canopy on my pickup. One of the side windows lifts up, 60% of the time im outside shooting, im sitting in the back of my pickup using the lip of the canopy for my bipods. Works awesome.

I saw br makes a dress kit for it that is supposed to take a pound or two off(it should at least make up for scope weight i think.) Looks pretty cool, but at the same time, i think the green looks pretty slick for the pnw.

I'll check with Buckrail on the kit. Thanks!
