Others Athlon - nice touch!

Bought an Athlon Midas Tac Gen II 4-16x44 for my Taipan & received it last Wednesday.
Had a couple of nice extras in the box- a sunshade, & a really nice set of flip-up aluminum lens caps.
The caps screw into the ocular & objective. They have several stops that let you set each cap anywhere from parallel with the tube to resting against it. Or perpendicular to the tube, perfect for reading my dope sheet attached with double sided tape.
When shopping around, none of the ads for this model mentioned the shade & caps. Made for a quite pleasant surprise. It's the little things .

@Danman - I concur with your praise for this scope. Image quality is superb.

You will not be disappointed with the image quality!

Like everything about it so far. Hoping it will track true years from now, like my SWFA scopes have. Used in Sunday at a UFT match & so far, so good.

I wondered if they were available separately, but didn't see them on the Athlon website. Also wonder what scopes in their lineup come with them & which don't.

They do have sunshades available as a stand alone item.

Gen1 M.T. does not... i consoled myself when i bought it that all the money went into the scope.....do it @Pumacarl! I like my Helix but I Love my Midas Tac!! I can almost gaurantee both of them in the Gen2 versions will be even better. I do find that the Element scopes come with some decent extra goodies vs the competition.

There are a few Athlon's here at the house. ….Midas Tac has always been a favorite, but now that they make one with an IR I’m thinking it can’t be beat for the money.

Athlon has been including these accessories for probably a year now. I think it was @Pumacarl who posted about it a little while ago. After I read his post, I emailed them and they sent me some accessories that did not arrive with my scope. I didn't get aluminum scope covers. That looks nice.

I wanted to let you all know that these scopes now arrive with a 3" sunshade, scopes caps, and a nice plastic throw lever for the power adjustment. I put off buying one of these scopes because I couldn't find a sunshade for it, finally ordered it anyway, and it arrived with everything. Nice.

Athlon has been including these accessories for probably a year now. I think it was @Pumacarl who posted about it a little while ago. After I read his post, I emailed them and they sent me some accessories that did not arrive with my scope. I didn't get aluminum scope covers. That looks nice.

they did not offer these on all the scope they started with a few I had spoke with Dustin last year about it and he said they would be offering them on most of the line but they were not doing the all at once.
seeing the on the Midas line up is what I have been weighting for : )

I can't open that to see the model. I know the 30mm tube ones don't have IR, but the 34mm tube ones do. It's a hard call because there is only a 4oz and 1" difference between the 6x24x50mm and the 5x30x56. I am not going to get one right away. Maybe a used one will turn up between now and when I have a new gun to put it on. The G2 MT will be my next scope though. My eyes are going and I need to start buying better glass.

Yup! that's what i figured it was. I have a hard time deciding between that one and the 6x24. I've only read positive comments about both, and seeing how my eyes are fading and the fact that I usually shoot off my tripod now, I am leaning towards the 5x30 too.

When I get everything up and running with the Wolverine (parts are at the house, waiting for me to make the repair )
I plan on having a shoot off between it and the S510, the winner is going to get a new Midas Tac .

What if the loser could beat the winner if it had the Midas Tac on it? What do you do then, make one shoot a little better and bring up your overall average accuracy between both guns, or would you just go for one being the lights out most accurate? These are the silly questions I wrestle with on my guns. Welcome to the mind game!

I’m thinking three separate 30 shot groups at 40y best combined average MOA will give me a definitive enough answer.

Have to make sure that which ever one receives it has earned it, that scope will be the second most expensive one for my Airguns.

I had a MT 4-16x gen 2 and it was the finest scope I ever looked throu or owned bar nonoe. My ONLY gripe was it wasn't illuminated and I really use that a lot. I now have other lighted Athlon scopes and love them, but the MT is my all time favorite.

Do you (or anyone!) know the differences in the Gen1/Gen 2 Midas Tac scopes (other than some included accessories)? My Gen1 M.T. is also my favorite of my 4 scopes; best glass, great turrets, but also the most expensive! My next and possibly final scope will be a FFP 6x24 Gen 2 Helix (or... another Athlon) and I know all the improvements on it are actually pretty decent vs. gen1. Every single complaint I have on my Helix is addressed in the Gen2 for not alot more $$.
