You may see in this “others” tab the progress of my Akela as an HFT set up from last year. Well my HFT set up is now my FX Dreamline. It’s been a lengthy process. That’s in here somewhere as well
.

The Akela hung there on my wall since fall of ‘24 with an occasional pesting duty. Zeroed with 10.3 gr AA pellets it performs well. That being said, I have two brand new tins of JSB Knock Out slugs.

….. I wonder
.
Well, it didn’t take long to quench that curiosity. The TP was open about 3/4 for the pellet tune. I opened it all the way up for the added surface area of the slugs. No hammer spring adjustment was done. It’s still right where Rich from Airgun Revisions set it when he installed his phenomenal SSG hammer kit.

Not to bad for an unregulated budget gun. These weren’t a throw away priced gun by any measure, but they were well under that $1000.00 unwritten threshold that seems to separate upper from lower budgets. That’s just my take on things. Anyhow, the group of 30 shots speaks for itself I think…

Zeroed at 30 yards (it’s a .177 after all) it still maintains nearly the same POI at 50 yards as well as the grouping. I was rushed due to weather approaching so a 50 yard group testing will have to be a little later.

You can see here that there is a single shot tray installed. The factory magazine does not at all like loading the tiny slugs. Every one of them for a full magazine pushes off center before slipping out of the magazine. I think maybe a CARM magazine may correct this with his design but I can’t confirm this speculation. I will be ordering a SST from him, as well as one magazine to try.
Does the little .177 KO have enough oomf out to 50 yards? According to the PA ballistics app I would say yes… on appropriate sized targets. At approximately 15.27 ftlbs it’s capable of pesting easily at 50 yards, again, on the right size target.

Shooting off of nothing more than the Caldwell bag with no rear support, I am confident that this little bullpup is capable of even tighter groups. But in a field environment, I think what I have shown above is what I can expect, which I’m quite happy with. I finally have my slug shooter. Time to order some more Knock Outs
