250Z 250z - Working On It!

I had given the link for this thread to Walker55 and I was scrolling it and saw a link for Griffin slugs that Hateful McNasty had given me, which I had thought were too expensive at the time, but now are very competitive. Griffin's 21gr slugs interest me quite a bit. Has anybody tried these slugs in their .22 250z's? If their deep bases work like the JSB KO's do, that would be sweet. I didn't want to go down the slug rabbit hole again but it looks like we will always be chasing after them with how everyone changes things up constantly.

Oooh that sounds really interesting!

That sounds really cool! You might have just come up with the first good reason that I have heard of for me to get some night vision. Please do, post a video.
Oh yeah I’m sorry I never mentioned that the IR light on the Zulus shines off the bottom of the slugs! You can watch them fly all the way in!

I forgot to post pictures in this thread last week. The plenum itself comes almost to the very end of the box. There’s maybe .200” more box than plenum.

I finally got the right o-rings and it after turning down a whole new drive shaft for my compressor it looks like that’s up and running too.

So fingers crossed I’ll have the gun reassembled tonight and I’ll be able to fill it up and test this plenum out.

That really looks like a great setup. Anybody getting a .25, or wanting to shoot heavy .22 slugs, should absolutely do this. I really really love my arca swiss setup and won't part with that at this point. Luckily for me the lightweight .22 slugs keep me entertained enough. For now. I look forward to seeing what the .22 shooters can get out of using this plenum though, especially with 34gr slugs. I still want a 75fpe .22 slinging 34gr slugs. Right now I believe a used Leopard would be the easiest way to get there, but things change in the airgun world so fast, time will tell.

That leopard looks so good. Probably the only FX I’m lusting over currently.

I should point out that the Karma EQ in .22 will easily do 75fpe. They actually list it with 75fpe as the “max power” but considering the .30 cal is listed at like 102fpe and I’m making 120-125fpe easily I think that’s an undersell… it really likes the .218 Zan ELRs in 35.5gr….. I wish I had a .22 to try out the ace marksman slugs too.

You know, you are right, but I will give you a couple of reasons why that would be a plan B for me. Number one, it's a little bulky and even heavier than the Leopard (and the Leopards are already heavy). Number two, for a .22 bullpup I'd want the 28" barrel of the Leopard, plus the path to upgrades and different evolving barrels is going to happen faster with FX. Number three, I have been reading about AEA products since they were first announced, released, had teething problems (especiallly bad magazines), and finally won competitions with Karma, but I still won't be an early adopter of them. Kudos to you and those who will pave the way. I am going to hold off, unless there is a smoking deal on a used one, because the numbers are right there for what I want. I still think the longer barrel of the Leopard would allow for a lower reg setting and a better balanced sleeker gun. Having some experience with the Barra and the air around the barrel, it also makes me think that this FX isn't going to need a barrel stiffener either.

Well, it's been a minute, hasn't it? Looks like I'm back to working on it! My beloved 250Z has developed a leak. This is my first airgun in quite a while to do so, I have been very lucky. It is still spot on, and the leak is slow, so it's most probably just the fill port oring. I'm going to change them all anyway, now that the gun has been in it's final configutation for a while, and I am more than happy with it. I actually like checking on everything anyway and this a great excuse for a tear down. I have been neglecting this gun lately, between the FX and the Gen3 mrod, though I still think this one is the most fun to shoot.

AND, this is why you buy extra parts for your gun when you get it:

Like I said, I have a slow leak. I was thinking that is was most probably the fill port but I decided to make sure that it wasn't the valve, first, before replacing all of the orings, and still having a leak. I didn't have a balloon but I did have a rubber glove and a rubber band. I didn't even know if this would work because it is not directly on the barrel, but the thumb did pressurize from flat to this in under 20 minutes. I guess it could be the air reservoir oring, but that is very unlikely as it is static, nope, 95% sure it's the valve. That's alright, I've got one, and luck has nothing to do with it. Bad luck has something to do with the valve leaking though, and it seems I have that too. At least I won't have much down time and I won't be doing this twice. That's a major plus.

I don’t doubt you… I think the 250z was the most fun gun I’ve had to shoot until this DRS, now they are tied for 1st place. Which goes to show you how good the 250z really is.
