With a bit a selective limb pruning, I can get a lane out to roughly 60yrds for the target. It'll go from a 6x6 deck post through a lane that's mostly there now to a tree at about 65yrds. I'll be able to setup my table on the concrete slab right out the basement door and shoot from a covered position. Got a feeling I'll be going through a lot of lead once it's done!
I have a deer feeder that spreads corn 4 times a day. The squirrels eat the crap out of it and bury it all over. There are several corn plants crowing back there. I've thinned them out quite a bit but it seems like there is always more. I'm feeding the carcasses to the yotes but I can't seem to find my game cam to verify what animal is taking them. Since March the nights have been real quiet and no rollcall at dusk. In the fall when the leaves fall I'll be able to shoot further up the hill to about 70-80yrds. Anything more that that and I risk clearing the hill at a trajectory that could allow the round to really carry and I'm not going to risk it.
Unless I go out somewhere to shoot, I don't have any need for that kind of power, 60-70fpe is more than enough as it is. Once I get more 30gr in I'm going to test out at 50yrds and see how much more tuning I need to do. Then I'll try some 32's just to see the fps and how they track. Once I know that I'll order the Franco's in 30, 31 or 32gr. I'm hoping that by August I'll be able to order the DNT Zulus and figure out a tripod mount. When the yotes go back to making a racket at 2am I'll be ready to ease out the bedroom door onto the deck and drill them quietly. Hopefully there'll be enough shock after the 1st one that I can line a second one up.
I am interested in a little more porting & polishing but beyond that I think I'll be good... for a while
