100 Yard benchrest and the ammo used

As we approach the 2025 shooting season, shooters are getting their gear ready to go. Tuning, ammo selection and practice practice practice.

Over the year's the 30 caliber pellet has become the favorite for 100 yard bench. The choices for 30 have grown as well.

JSB 44.8gn have been a fan favorite for many many years, and for good reason. With tons of top 5 finishs the pellet has room to boast.

AEA pellets have broke out on the scene winning spots in all major competitions in 2024 with JTS pellets right behind them.

Zan Projectiles with there 30 caliber 56gn & 48gn have also taking there place in the hearts of benchrest shooters, also at the top of the podium.

Competition is good as it makes company's work to bring better products to the end consumers.

So in 2025 what competitions will you be shooting and what pellets will you be using?

I dont compete but I like the JSB 44.8gn pellets I havent shot much 100 yard this year or even last fall but I am hoping to get going again.

I’m sticking with my ghost 25 cal as I’ve given up on chasing the big events more expense than i care to throw away that and to me the top guys are all getting the latest and greatest i assume at least reduced cost so i can’t keep up on ss. But the 25 is still good for having fun!

Great question, and I'm looking forward to the long answers too. People have had some time now to figure out what's what and the ultimate statement is what you choose to back your bids. I have bought what everybody was saying was the top .30 pellet from AEA, and their .22 21.9gr, and I wouldn't use either for public plinking. Haven't really tried a lot with them, to be honest, but the initial results are not good. Except for the .22 25gr, which at this point I doubt I will ever buy, JSB is still my go to brand for pellets. If I were to compete though I would be spending a lot of time trying Zan and their new sizer. I think those are the ones to watch, at least I will be.

The two pellets that stand out the most to me, that I have personally used, are the tried and true 44.75, I have printed .5 inch groups at 100 yards fairly easily with these , without having to stress my rifle but the often overlooked because for some reason .25 seems to be the bastard child of caliber choices, 33.95 JSB , I have gotten similar results with the 33.95 and found that they actually like to be shot a bit faster than a normal pellet, giving them a little better trajectory.

I should add too that the aea 33.9 is much more consistent in weight than jsb and after working with it for a bit seem to be getting at least as good results as sorted jsb and thats shooting aea straight from the tin!
