Is it just me or has the cost of new airguns seemingly shot through the roof? My income has not kept up with the price of the new airguns. Maybe I have a bit too much Scottish blood in me, but I think I will just stick with the old ones.

I made a post about a specific manufacturer and pricing a week or two ago , really now that I think of it, its all the manufacturers and like it was pointed out , everyones feeling the brunt of this economy and rise in cost of materials along with a myriad of other things.

I do think that there hasn't been anything really, truly new in the way of innovation in airguns with the exception of the electronic rifles so you'd think the costs might start leveling out but I don't see that happening any time soon.

Agreed, the prices of many airguns have risen recently. But I would argue that they have risen less than the prices in our local supermarkets and restaurants - my wife, at least, is emphatic on that!

Inflation...and I'll leave it at that because these threads can get off tract fast. It's a bummer not just for consumers but for retailers as well. Steel prices, aluminum prices etc have skyrocketed. Point in fact: many target companies have folded or reduced production because of steel sheets costing so much.

What isn't expensive nowadays? If I leave the house with the family I already know it's going to be a minimum $100 day. Haha I think the unfortunate part of what I've seen with many higher end brands is a raise in price with either the same quality or lower quality. A small example, guns that cost near $2k coming with plastic magazines...to me it's pretty inexcusable. More and more things get removed from the plate unnoticed and the consumers become used to it.

Yes and no. Expensive guns(im classifying anything over $1k) have always cost alot. I have seen them go up marginally but really because of cost of raw materials themselves. In the other hand, you now have guns like the jts airacuda that are EXCELLENT quality, rivaling guns over $1k at a $300 price point.

I see a lot of your posts and videos complaining about plastic magazines. I’ve gotta say, plastics have come a long way in the past few years, and they tend to be less damaging to pellets when they are self indexing type. I don’t mind a rifle coming with a plastic mag, as long as it works well, and is well made. There are some manufacturers out there that charge over $2k for a rifle, and the mags are junk! Doesn’t make the material bad. Just the design.

It's really my own preference, I've had enough plastic magazines break to know they aren't long lived. To me everything as a whole reflects quality in a gun, especially an expensive one.

i had to save for a year and a half to get what i wanted thought it would only be a year but inflation weakens the dollar so vastly it took half again as long.

as for me i will save to get what i want and one thing i DO NOT WANT it anything plastic i dont cre how far it has come or how fr its going to go i DO NOT WANT IT!

I get personal preference, but saying something is inferior bc it’s made of plastic just isn’t true.

BC might be fine but in my experiance plastic simply will not hold up over time. it degrades brakes down crumples and falls apart then i have to try have get to measurement go to a avaliable machine and make it outt of metal like it should have been in the first place?

thats been my experiance.

example five gal buckets of they are as good as plastic the bc is the same but 20% of the new one i fill the bottoms crack they leak and its difficult to find good steel buckets anymore.
why because plastic is cheaper not better ust cheaper.

i understand sometimes plastic is the better do to ease of manufactoring verse cost for example gumbal bags?

i dont know it will take a LOT to convence me plastic has its place on a gun?

We’ll have to agree to disagree. Plastics have been tried and tested over the years to stand up as good or better than metal. So much so that glock makes a full polymer body. I agree certain things just shouldn’t be plastic, but to ban its use from an entire pcp is just silly.

i would never ban anything
and theres a reason i dont and wont own a glock.
i just dont do plastic guns of anykind.
and yes i agree some plastics have there place, and in some setting will hold up.

I don't like plastic magazines either. I have become spoiled by the BRK/Daystate, Evol, and Western Airguns magazines. I do think additive manufactured magazines are a step up from the PLA cast mags, much better actually. Orion, Stud, and Midwest Elite are the three best manufacturers of 3d printed mags that I have seen. But as for OEM mags, the BRK/Daystate mags are the best on the market IMO. Back to the subject, the aluminum mags are expensive but they won't ever break/crack if you drop them. I've had numerous plastic magazines break and it's always a bummer when it happens. The Marauder mags at least are affordable around $12-15 if my memory serves me well, but if a company is charging $70 for plastic I would rather buy an aluminum one for a couple bucks more.

The good thing is we have a little bit of everything on the market, so we can vote with our wallets whichever way we want manufacturers to bend.

Have to agree, above a certain price point “all” the parts represent the whole. I know polymers are strong, but still don’t like plastic magazines in pricey PCPs. Seems an afterthought…

No one is looking to “ban” anything… Why such a thought? Plastic magazines simply feel cheap compared to their metal counterparts… Like I said plastic magazines on a over 1.5K PCP seems a cheap afterthought.

Yeah, I use to think this way too, but everything has gotten expensive and most things I don't like as much as I like airguns. Throw in the fact of getting older and enjoying stuff while you can, and not being able to take it with you, and buying a nice airgun doesn't make me flinch any more.

On a side note; I love carm plastic magazines for pellet use. They load easy, don't scratch up anything, quieter fumbling one in, and if I lose or misplace one, they are a third the price. I'll spend money on a good gun but I don't need to shell out big bucks for extras that work no better. The factory metal mags do work better for slugs though.
