What'cha doing air gun related today?

Took the OmniStorm out to try and collect some chrono data, and record some shots using scope. 61F and 13+ mph winds, but break action and closing up were making chrony fall off. Saw pellet escape attempts again with the Meisterkugeln 7.0 pellets, but Benji 7.9s were snug as a bug in a rug. I think the gun is around 12 fpe with current piston tune, but I will need to figure out a different mounting plan if I want reliable chrony numbers with natechrony on it.

You can see the 3 dents from pellet hits, placement is me. Shot at 20 yards.
Good session PapaT. Have you heard anything about sending your rifle back due to the recall?

What Topaz Photo AI

Captured a nighttime image with faint eye shine—ran it through Topaz Photo AI, and this is what came out:

No fakery. The coyotes were already there, buried in shadow and noise. Topaz didn’t add them—it just revealed what the sensor captured but couldn’t show clearly.

Topaz Photo AI does three things:

  • Reduces digital noise
  • Sharpens edges and fur texture
  • Recovers shadow detail without blowing out highlights
It’s like cleaning a fogged lens. The scene doesn’t change—you just see it better. For documenting wildlife or field setups, it’s a principled enhancement tool, not a trick.

The reason why I am explaining how this works? Because I posted the picture on (123) and this one on FoxPro predator hunters and let's just say I am no longer a member, my choice. Back to the picture, how do you think you would feel if you learned just how close you were to them, I have learned a very important lesson, Coyotes are wild and can be dangerous. I will continue to hunt then even alone but, never will I underestimate or think that they are always afraid of us. Just be careful when hunting them please.

Thats crazy!

My Barra 250 saga continues as I moved out to 52yds today w/nine pellets. The dam gun will shoot and in the right hands (not mine apparently), should cover with a quarter or less. These 'misses' are all on me as it hits where it's aimed. Praying for trigger kits to be in stock soon. If you have current info please let me know.
.25 cal, JSB Match Diabolo 25.4 gr, 2,200psi, 916-920 fps, Buck Rail suppressor.

Have you cleaned your barrel with ballistol? I pulled about 25 patches thru my 22 250z and it got a lot of junk out of mine. The surprising thing to me was on the 11th patch or so it started turning brown like rust was in the barrel! I couldn't see it when i shined a light and looked it was nice and shiny but even on my last patch it was a tiny bit brown. I'll clean it some more after the weekend as i want to shoot it more and then check accuracy again. I have the trigger kit and the slug kit, the slug kit has a different hammer spring and a small brass weight to hit the poppet when fired. When you get your upgrades in it should be more accurate i would believe. The trigger kit alone should increase your accuracy so its easier to fire without pulling your shots as the trigger is bad from the factory. I cant stand the square shape! Hope you get one soon.

I had a similar experience with a Chinese manufacturer. I ended up pulling patches with Kroil and Bore Bright to get it all out. This was the first round with just ballistol. Then with bore bright. Bore bright is red so that skews it a little.
*This was not a Barra.

It could be some leftover rust preventive that the Chinese put in their barrels.
Yes, it’s likely that it is cosmoline. I thought the same thing when I polished the barrel on my Ghost and others pointed out that it was probably cosmoline. I never even considered that a $2400 air rifle would ship with cosmoline still in the barrel. The last time that I saw cosmoline in use was in rifles that were stored for long periods of time, such as surplus Chicom SKS carbines. It looks just like rust on a patch.

It came right out the first time i cleaned it a few months ago and was the normal solid black Chinese barrel grease. I don't think my GX CS4 compressor with dual filters introduced any moisture into the barrel i think its just working loose. I'll run a plastic bristle through it to get any more out. It's always something to keep us airgunners busy!

Wow, I've only seen rust in powder burner guns that have been outside in the winter snow and rain collecting moisture. I've cleaned six pcp barrels this week and the Barra 250z is the only one I've seen it in. Yours looks bad as well in the photos!

That's a Halloween picture for sure! Quite scary brother.

Good idea; it's sitting on my bench, but the answer is I haven't yet. I guess there's no shame as an old fart to admit that I used Hoppe's #9 when I first got it and I do remember seeing some brownish color on the patches. I also scoped it then, which I reported on where I mentioned seeing a pretty rough bore. When I read your question I scoped it again and not surprisingly the bore was smoother, albeit with some anomalies not noticed the first time. The breach end of the bore is ideal looking, but midway through, one of the lands actually appears to skip laterally before continuing on. Additionally, there are maybe four areas, each an inch long where the coloration becomes lighter. Weird as a three legged dog that still hunts. Kind of reminds me of an old .22 rifle I have that has like three inches of rifling worn in the middle, but shoots wicked accurate. Ugh. First world problems are so annoying!

Man oh man, so true about the Yotes! We live rural, but this is the first year I've seen one trot through the property mid-morning and it saw me. I grabbed the 12 gauge already loaded w/ 00 buck and the only shot I had was 50 yds away, but it let out a yelp. The SG is cylinder bore, which means a fifty inch pattern at fifty yards and only nine bb's. I've since started reloading my own w/ #4 buck and 25 pellets. They are hell on the deer when they drop fawns and when they are quiet, usually means a mountain lion is around. Good luck with your hunting.
