Others Daystate Ranger Bottle Explosion

RACKNLOAD just posted a YouTube video claiming a Daystate Ranger's PCP bottle exploded! The force from the explosion cracked, split the stock and bent the barrel. Claimed it happened at night, after hours at the shop he works for. He's not blaming Daystate for it, he's asking the community for answers, why it exploded in such a violent manner. wunder if it was dropped?
but to be clear it is clearly not a bottle that exploded but the connection between the bottle and gun.
at least thats what I see.
that nipple that failed ( nipple for lack of a better word ) could have been damaged with a fall or bump I would think theres some fair amount of leverage on that point the bottle would be acctying as a cheater bar. a small fracture could lead to degradation quickly.
glad to hear no one was hurt.
and also I agree this should have no bearing on daystate.
maybe they will inspect it and detrurmin what happened though as it would be nice to know.

It appears the bottle failed at the nipple connection area. The video shows the narrowest area of the bottle had completely sheared away from the largest portion of the bottle. I'm glad no one was hurt, after hours event, but surprised this hasn't happened before. Are these bottle fed airguns ticking time bombs? Perhaps mandatory pressure testing should be required to avoid unintentional bottle failures in the future?

I know nothing about this situation except what is presented in the video. But I'll make a few comments:

- As was mentioned in the video, this type of event is extremely rare (fortunately).

- The gun - and therefore probably the bottle - was manufactured between about 2006 and 2013. So the bottle is likely between 12 and 20 years old. (Of course we can't be sure that this actually was the original bottle or a replacement, maybe even older than the gun).

- There's no indication of how many owners this bottle may have had - or how conscientious they may have been. Nor is there any indication about whether the gun had been used with support from a "bottle-mounted" bipod - a common practice which could certainly put unintended pressure on the failed section of the bottle.

- Nor do we know if the gun had been dropped at any time(s).

- All HPA bottles like this have a manufacturing date marked on them, so an owner can easily see how old a bottle is. Carbon fiber HPA bottles (for sure) are marked also with a mandatory pressure testing/re-certification date already. This one is Aluminium. But, of course, it will be down to the owner to adhere to any such indications.

- There's no indication if the bottle had been filled to too-high a pressure when the incident took place. Nor if it had been over-filled (maybe repeatedly) in the past. Again, that's down to the owner(s).

But it's a good reminder to us all to keep shooting safe in every respect.

Very dangerous pressures we mess with. Glad no one was injured.

I would want to know
has the hydro date expired?
was the bottle being overfilled?
any damage from dropping or smacks?
was the bottle also being used as a purchase point for attachments?
quality of air being used = was moisture an issue?

You should contact him via his YouTube video and see if he has additional information. Perhaps he can answer your questions? Take note: He's always been very honest about his reviews and has been a reliable source of non-bias factual information for many years.

My pcps hang out (usually full/near full charge) under my bed in a custom made storage drawer. Zero fear of them hurting us if they blow, but I did warn the wife we may some day be awakened by a bang 😆
Odd, reading this thread right after reading about someone else here on Ham testing some low pressure fittings to 10,000psi😒....
Watched the video and it will be interesting to see what they come up with but that metal composition at the break did look a bit questionable? Also....bottle mounted bipods freak me out too, HARD NO for me! As pcp guns get older this WILL become more common, I'll be watching this to see the diagnosis!
