250Z 250z Regulator rebuild

Gonna be tearing down my 250z replacing all the rings and I'd like to do a regulator rebuild. I have reg butter and a decent assortment of O rings. I read where some of you have sanded down the Belleville washers with 1000, 2000 grit then polish them. Is there more details to rebuild or parts I'll need to complete this job?

I am usually the first person to suggest this kind of work, but I don't do it without a reason. Was your gun leaking, or the reg inconsistent? If not, being so new, you really don't have to change all the orings everytime you take it apart. If you are using the oring kit that came with the gun, you are putting the same thing back in anyway. The belleville washer polishing is a good idea, it can't hurt, especially if yours has been inconsistent. The only thing that you really should have are some good plastic picks to remove orings if you do want to reuse them, and there is less chance of scratching the oring channel too. Since you are taking it right down, really clean the barrel. The first time, and usually it's the only time, I clean the barrel like a firearm barrel, a bore brush, solvent, and then I use JB bore paste and then I clean that out. You just want to make sure that all of the cosmoline is out and any machine fretting left behind is gone. After that is all done and I push a pellet down and like the way it feels, I won't do it again, usually, I'll just use pull throughs with ballistol. My .30 Paradigm I do use a brush on every now and then because the hybrids I use are really nasty, they're accurate, but nasty. Most ammo isn't like that and pull throughs work fine, unless your bore is messed up and you will find out if that is the case after you push a few rounds through your barrel. Good luck with it!

Been having issues with my chronograph however a new one is on the way. I also have a spare regulator for what it's worth...also within a few weeks I should have the plenum and a new barrel from Barra.

Atleast pulling the regulator is easy and isn't like other things that require a full disassemble so I may just save it for later. I still need to stone/ polish the hammer and all trigger components then switch over to graphite lube.

Well, if it helps, I never touched my reg and my es is probably 6fps, it's good enough to leave alone. The reg shouldn't swing at all, it should read one pressure until you drop below it and continue going down.

The trigger in mine was very good, it was the safety that screwed up everything.

It’s easy to do but TAKE A PIC OF THE B-STACK! hahaha that way you don’t have to guess the arrangement. A very very light polish and reg butter will make the gun a bit more “snappy” in my opinion.

When I chrono’d the gun last week with the 34gr I was getting a spread of like 4fps… but lots of duplicate speeds sometimes 3-4 times in a row. The Barra regulator is actually very good with a little extra love.

Reg butter from Airgun Shootist works great on all my regulators. It's like thirty bucks and you get a small tin of this stuff and all my airguns perform great! Tom at High Pressure Pneumatics supplies it as well. Keeps the reg more consistent.

Sir, I got the outer plenum for my 250Z 25cal and after installing I'm having air leaking through the "weephole" I sent for the Barra rebuild kit. Does the kit include the orings for the regulator outer/inner? My gun never leaked before, I keep it pressurized though. I keep it no less than 2000psi. I'm going to change that habit. Sir, do you know of a video link that shows specifically the regulator rebuild "orings" ? I greatly appreciate any input respectfully. TY

I never had to rebuild my regulator and never got their kit. I'm sure that @Northeastbeast would know, hopefully he'll chime in and help you out with that. He has worked on very many 250z. I never got the bigger plenum either. Do not change your habit of keeping your gun aired up. It prevents problems, it doesn't cause them. Make sure that you put in more pressure than your reg is set for to keep those orings engaged too. You don't need to be topped off but be a couple hundred psi over your reg set point anyway. I don't have a list of
links for videos. I just do a simple search on youtube and usually they pop right up. Youtube works that way. The video descriptions often have lists of the materials used in the video. Good luck with your project, and welcome to HAM.

I want to mention something that I don't really want you to do, but just think about going forward. It's about not caring too much about oring sizing. If you have a good, fresh, diverse collection of buna 70 orings in a kit, you can just swap out similar sizes w/o actually learning their size or number designation. If you look at some pictures of how the orings seal and hold the pressure, and where you need to put your oring, you will get the gist for what is required. The last two pcp that I resealed I did this way, and no leaks. There is exceptions to this, but for most older pcp this works. For the newer guns you just might want to check out the gun's schmatic first to see if you need to use any buna 90 or specialty orings. I only mention this because there is no reason for down time waiting for specific kits when you might already have what you need anyway, and even if the gun leaks it won't hurt anything and you get some training while you wait for your specific kit, which you most likely won't end up needing anyway.

The kit does not tell you what orings are included or what rings go where. I dont believe its even a complete oring rebuild kit. Its just a handful of commen problem and or leak point orings. I had pyt together complete full kits but they didnt sell very well so I assumed people did not want them so I stopped offering them. I am away from home on Vacation and then im heading to the pyramyd air cup. When I get home I'll try and find my notes on regulator oring sizes and list them here for reference to help those in need. At minimum ypu will be able to find and order them in bulk to have them on hand for future issues shall they arise.
