250Z 250Z tuning, mainly slugs.

Okay so I finally pulled the trigger and opened up the transfer port up to 4.4mm to match the intake sleeve. I’m at work so I haven’t chrono’d the gun yet but from just a couple dry fires it definitely sounds different. Sounds a lot more crisp. I’m very excited to see what the numbers look like…. I’ve decided to stop tuning constantly. The goal here is to shoot 32gr Franco slugs at 960fps.
I'm getting ready to order some of the Franco's. Maybe next week. Just trying to decide if I should go 30 or 32 grain.

By the looks of those pics, I think I'm going to need to order some parts from Barra and have them sent your way!!!

Anyone have a full exploded parts list, not just the o-rings?

No I have asked them for a parts list multiple times and they say they don’t have one. I wanna find the exhaust port. I have an idea but I don’t wanna take a drill to something before I’m 100% positive lol.

Maybe split the difference and go 31gr? So far that’s been my favorite one. But with this transfer port I’m trying the 32gr for giggles.

lol I did the transfer port but the 32gr aren’t here yet so I went out to play with the 28gr today lol…

They are going 985-990fps…. Guys the reg butter makes the regulator incredibly consistent. Sitting in front of the chrono today and the numbers were shockingly consistent. I wish I had a good one that recorded the strings and all that but yeah she’s purring… I wish I could tell you the settings but tbh I’m not sure. I wonder if my gauge is messed up lol. It says the reg is at 2800/2900 but I took 15 shots today and the tank is on 3100psi still… so idk? This thing is so quirky tbh.. but I’ll be damned if she doesn’t just shoot lights out.

Nice Shot! Wrong place to hang out.

I can't wait to get a Zulus!

In the mean time I'm trying to tune down to a 30gr slug, but the battery died on the chrony.

Power is out here but the generator is running!

Oof that’s so unlucky!! I think you’re gonna like shooting the 30s… I might not even detune. Leave the reg where it’s at and see the speed before making changes.. the more I shoot the more convinced I am that if the choice is lighter but fps is around 950 vs heavier but the the fps is like 860-870… then just give me the speed demon lol.

And save the extra couple hundred and get the LFR version… I took the time to enter the correct info in the DNT app and verified it with real world results and it sure would be cool to be able to sync it with the scope. I have a hand held LFR so that’s how I know distances but the to have all of that in the scope would be super cool.

I've backed the hammer spring off a lot and the tank psi is still too high to lower the reg.

I got the paracord today and I'm hoping before the weekend is over I'll atleast have the line run for the target. I need to find a shaft driven pulley. (Damn that sounds dirty 🤣)

Shaft Driven Pulley would also make a great album title for a heavy metal band 😂😂😂.

I got out yesterday to dial in the H&N .250 30gr for a bit before the storms rolled in. Started out at 2400psi with the hammer spring backed out as far as it would go. It was a little breezy. Things began with the impacts within 5" but all over the place and ended with a user induced jam. Then I had the screw gun in the wrong direction and stripped the hex on the front 2.5mm rail screw. I was able to get it apart without removing it, clear the jam and get it back together. I'll have to deal with that at some point.

Today I got out again and got it dailed in at 25yrds. It's way too windy to stretch it out further. 15mph gusting over 20. There were some lulls in the wind to get some decent shooting in but now it's just windy.

All told, I'm at 2550psi and one full turn in on the hammer, 1/8th at a time. Got it between 940 & 950fps. Here are the groups. It starts at the bottom left. The last 3 (13-15) had no changes.

Those last few groups were looking real sweet, especially when taking the wind into account. Your speeds are looking consistent too. I will preach the gospel of reg butter to get that thing purring even better. The numbers look great bro. You’re at 60fpe and some change. You should still be getting at least 20-25 a fill and once you get a few more thwacks out of those 30s you’ll never go slower ever again haha.

I’m gonna give you the same advice that’s been given to me which is: you’ve found a good tune don’t touch it haha. I’m also a hypocrite cuz I have done just a little bit more haha.

It’s been a couple days since I opened the transfer port. I’ve got the reg up super high 2800/2850 lol with just a tiny bit of hammer spring. The gun is absolutely cooking. Chrono numbers today were 1005-1011fps 😂😂.. im not gonna keep shooting it that way but when I try the 32s that should put me right at the 960/965 I’m looking for. I’m waiting on barra to send me a new intake sleeve though. I’m 90% certain I’m losing a bit of air pressure/efficiency right behind the slug but I wanna test it before I say more. It won’t be a secret if I figure it out. Pretty sure I should be able to bring the reg down to like 2650/2700 once it’s right… with current settings I’m getting 2 full clips. But I wanna up that a little.

Got a feeling there will be a little tweaking at 50yrds. I'll get out again when the weather is calmer. Lost a chance at a squirrel a bit ago. I really don't like how the bolt will pop out if you're not careful handling the gun. It's not a huge problem with the single shot tray in. But with a mag it's a pita!

Whoever is the seller of the H&N slugs on Amazon $ucks. I've got two tins of .249 30gr when I ordered .250. One of them is going back! I'm going to place an order for several on pyramid now that I know what I want.

I have the reg butter. Just don't feel like tearing it fully apart right now. Want to get some more fun in before I do that.

Unfortunately, there's been no work on the target retreaval this weekend. It's a two person job and my buddies all had plans this weekend. I need to find the pulleys still too. I don't want to go the old kids bike route as I'd like something less permanent that I can take down and put up fairly quickly.

There's a post above, but I think $kcus has it on hold for a moderator.

Based on the variable nature of reading the gauges, I think I'm getting 33 to 35psi per shot. I'm pushing 3700psi when I fill, so I believe I can get 3 mags with this setup. I've ordered 4 more tins 30gr slugs from a couple different manufacturers and some AEA 29.5gr pellets. I'm going to get with the guy that makes the Franco slugs this week.

If anyone knows of a 8" to 12" pulley that will mount well to a tree & a 6x6 post, please point me in the direction. Thanks!

Dude that’s sickkkk! You’re right in the perfect zone for the Schmedium tune! I have no doubt there will be a little tweaking at 50y but you’re getting there…. The one good thing about the reg is you don’t have to fully break down. Take the stock off, degass and the reg pops right out. Just take a pic of the bevel washer stack… super light polish with polishing paper and then hit it with the butter…any extra you get in the reg will get blown out. It did feel like it took a tank of air for me everything to settle so load up some pellets and just have a fun plinking session. I’d even let it sit overnight before touching it again… the reg adjustment becomes much more sensitive btw. lol it’s almost like proper lube makes it work better 😂😂.. but since then I get no reg creep even with altitude and temp changes.

Really excited for you though. This gun is so much fun when it’s dialed in and shooting how you want… cannot wait to see a dead coyote pic with your gun in it.

3rd or 4th tin of 30gr H&N's from Amazon that were .249 when the description says .250. This time I declined their "make it right" replacement. I'm done buying ammo from them!

On a plus note I can ping golf balls at 30yrs from the deck every time now. But I only have 1 slug left until the order from Pyramid gets here.

There are a lot of threads on every airgun forum on who to buy ammo from and who to avoid. If you haven't read one yet, I can wholeheartedly not recommend Amazon (which you just learned) and MidwayUSA. Their packaging is terrible to nonexistent.

Pyramid had great packaging and the order was right the 1st time. With the 4th tin free, they're hard to beat if they carry what you want. I bought the AEA from Utah Air, got a feeling that will go well.

At least Amazon is easy to return. I've had issues with Midway over the years on other stuff and will only use them as a last resort.

The Franco slugs sound like a good deal and I need to order from him.

Pyramyd Air (PA) was one of the first premium pellet sellers to pack in foam. They have a very good reputation and are good to buy from in bulk, during their free shipping times. They dropped the ball a little during covid but are good again.

Lately, I really like Treniers. If they have the pellets I want, I get them here. They are the best deal for smaller orders, excellent shipping. They don't have a big variety though.

The Pellet Shop is really good too, and has good inventory, especially for AEA.

Utah Airguns has good selection, especially if you want JSB Knock Out slugs. Honestly, their packing isn't the best though, they need to work on that, but I have been lucky so far. Good customer service.

Airguns of Arizona surprised me. They are a class act and a great place to call and do business with, but I don't think selling pellets is a priority for them. The last time I ordered a tin of pellets to try, from them, they were barely wrapped in some bubble wrap, loose, in a biggger box, no damage but a sketchy job.
