BRK Team Shooter, Fady Kiwan has dominated the 2023 Benchrest World Championships – in fact, the Benchrest Rimfire and Air Rifle World Championships – held in Plzen, Czech Republic. He won two World titles and set a record score in the process.

His gun? A BRK Ghost air rifle.

The competition is sanctioned by the World Rimfire and Air Rifle Benchrest Federation (WRABF) and European Rimfire And Air Rifle Benchrest Shooting Federation (ERABS). No less than 237 competitors from 23 countries took part in a range of events between July 26 and August 4 in Plzen.

Fady competed in three categories with the same gun using different barrels:
– Light Varmint, 25 Meter range (17-Inch, .177 caliber barrel)
– Heavy Varmint, 25 Meter range (23-Inch, .177 caliber barrel)
– Unlimited, 50 Meter range (23-Inch .22 caliber barrel)

Unlike most other shooters – who used highly specialized custom rifles – Fady used a standard BRK Ghost. His only in-match changes to this HAM Gold Award-winning air rifle were swapping calibers and barrels – a process that takes just a few minutes.

Fady’s score of 725.21 points was not only good enough to win the 50 Meter Unlimited World title but set a new record of 247/250 in the process!

In addition, he went on to be crowned World Champion in the Three Gun category winning Light and Heavy Varmint categories as well as 50 Meter unlimited.

“Fady’s achievement is the stuff of dreams,” says BRK’s Tony Belas. “To win two world titles and set a record score is one thing, but to first among all those top grade air rifle shooters in a world championship with a standard BRK Ghost is simply amazing.”

Even more amazing is the fact that this was the first WRABF championship Fady had won!

The World Rimfire and Air Rifle Benchrest Federation (WRABF) and the European Rimfire And Air Rifle Benchrest Shooting Federation (ERABS) are the two federations that co-ordinate rimfire and air rifle bench rest shooting worldwide respectively. Among their main sponsors are the ammunition manufacturers Lapua and JSB, as well as Czech PCP manufacturer Kalibrgun.

Following on from Fady’s triumph at the Benchrest World Championships, you’ll be able to see him in action in the USA at Extreme Benchrest in October 2023!

It was the 28” barrel 👍🙂🎯
Yes, it looks like it and Barb Pellegrino has one on her Red .22 Ghost that was also shot at the Worlds. Just want to be straight up with our readers. The Ghost is the BEST new gun to come out in years, but the World Champion did not shoot a stock gun, he shot (awesomely) with an upgraded barrel... Before shooters run out to buy one, they should know that tidbit. ;)

Mike, thanks. Two questions...

1. Do you know how the barrel(s) were upgraded?

2. How does Fady's fantastic shooting rate when analyzed using the Centercut Factor?

Enquiring minds need to know :)

All I know is BRK/Daystate has/had some 28-inch barrels (in .22 and .30, not sure about .25) that are slow twist pellet specific barrels. Barb Pellegrino (Team Centercut) was given one for her Red .22 Ghost to replace the factory 23-inch barrel and she used it at the Textreme EFT GP in Clifton TX the beginning of June 2023, plus it was used by the Iranian Team in the Unlimited Division at the Worlds to do very well...

The Centercut Factor needs tweaking for events that are usually very close in score and have high (3 card) scores. He won by a larger than usual margin, but the CF was "only" about 1.7. Thats why I had discussed possible high scores and a multiplication factor for CF. Raw unmodified CF in maximum score of 250, a factor of 2 if maximum is 500, and a factor of 3 if the maximum possible is 750. In this case 1.7 x 3 = 5.1, which is more in line with what Jeffrey Hernandez shot at EBR 2023 with his 229 and won going away with a CF of 5.4 ish.

It’s amazing that Fady won all three of his matches using the same gun, switching barrels and calibers…? Simply unreal. I bet the competition now believe in Ghosts, all superstitions aside… Halloween everyday, with the Ghost racking up the wins. “Trick or Treat”🤓
No, he won Unlimited, came in 27th in LV and 35th in HV. Perhaps there is an overall or 3 class champion, but it’s not listed on the web site. It appears to be an overall score of the three class total?
