The death pf the springer rifle

So i have a beef with the Airgun industry, specifically Spring and gas ram air rifle makers.

WHAT HAPPENED???????

When you paid a high ticket for an air rifle it was worth it as it was a functioning work of art. Bluing with a mirror finish, exhibition grade wallnut stocks, amazing triggers. Top of the line barrels and accuracy for days. Some where along the line people just forgot. Now its ABS plastics 10 lbs triggers and not so impressive stocks.

Bsa, Theoben, Airarms, Beeman, Hw, webley
These companys put out some of the best of the best. Yes some went under others sold out to other companys. But man i really wish some one would step up and bring back the springer. 90s and early 2000s were the hey day. And from like 2011 on they fell off. It sadens me it really does. Collectors hord anything worth a can of beans so finding these pieces of art work are next to impossible in the States.

Yes pcp are all the rage and have become extremely popular. The pcp really started to take over in 2013, from my point of View anyway, 2016 it just hogged the market and our beloved spring/gas ram forever applied to the back burner.

RIP to the Springer 😢

I dont not own the rifles in the pictures, if you do please take credit. Thanks

holding groups and china?
the companies are gone as the once were?
what happen to the great pump guns of the past?
why isn't their room for a company to make great pump guns or springers for that matter?
I could not agree more. Maybe if this feed gets enough traction someone from airgun land will see it and spark a new conversation in the board room.

Air Arms are still good looking, and HW ain't going anywhere either. You don't have as many choices, but there are still good ones. There just isn't as much to adjust on them, and you usually have to settle on one pellet, so there isn't a lot to post about, but there are plenty out there still shooting away.

My goal is to spark conversion and maybe just maybe reignite a passion and love for springers that may be collecting dust some where

I just picked up a tuned beeman r9 tuned after realizing it’s been a while since I shot a springer. I’m coming from a tx200, so we’ll see how it differs. I opted for a break barrel this time purely for ease of loading, and lightweight for hunting. I’m also sticking with open sights for now.

I just picked up a Browning Gold 177 one year rifle stupid rare. Beautiful stock, god awful trigger lol, keeping open sites for hunting small game

How many of us here go "I should have.." about a now discontinued gun? Multiply that by a few thousand that's how many people agree. Except it will cost more to make that classic airgun, and people will say it isn't worth it at that price.

Is there hope? Remember that Air Venturi /Seneca brought out an outstanding all metal and wood pumper in the Dragonfly MK ll just a couple of short years ago. The next newest and greatest airgun might just be a competitor to the TX200 or HW97k. I've purchased all three of these rifles and am always on the lookout for quality and innovation. Orv.

I think @Pumacarl nailed it. There is just less new (nice) choices avaliable but there definitely is some good ones still being made! AA and HW knock it outta the park (and they both know it too😂!)
PCPs do catch all the attention, but the trend I'm hating too is all the plastic hideous stocks coming out. A synthetic stock can be very useful i get it but almost every one in the lineup? Really?! My dad and brother were wondering why on earth I got a TX after having my S510 for a year. Why I'd drop over 1k on a .177 springer? Heirloom, built like a Tank, silly accurate, cinch to work on, and walnut clad drool worthiness everytime I see it. It's hefty and demands awe. I have Zero open sight guns (that actually work😟) and find myself wanting another .177 springer! I'd probably go HW, break barrel....and probably another .177!! Here's my wood clothed beauties, last one being my old Slav 630 with useless open sights sadly.

I fear for Diana (M&G) the most these days.

If they get out, I'll have to wear black for a year.....
I was looking at Diana yesterday and pretty much. Out of stock , no longer available , and best one ... No backorders ..lol

A guy at agn has a thread on if the 48 was discontinued.. looked like most are right now ..lol

I think the china Dianapeak stuff is still available

I had great respect for Diana airguns until so many of their rifles were being made in China. Orv.
