Air Venturi Avenge-X Tactical Carbine

The new Air Venturi Avenge-X Tactical Carbine is another example of the current trend for compact versions of popular PCP air rifles. It’s interesting to see this move away from ever longer and more powerful air rifles in favor of traditional airgun qualities of (relatively) small size and light weight.

Hard Air Magazine conducted an extensive review of the full-length Avenge-X Tactical and the HAM Team was very impressed. It earned a HAM Gold Award with a score of 91% on test.

So what’s the difference between that and the Carbine version? Well, basically the action is the same but the Carbine has a shorter barrel and correspondingly-smaller HPA capacity.

Here’s the comparison.

CarbineFull Length
Overall Length33.25 - 36.5 Inches40.5 - 43.75 Inches
Barrel Length15.75 Inches22.8 Inches
Air Tube Capacity130 cc210 cc
Bottle Capacity300 cc400 cc
Weight (Tube Model)5.4 Lbs6.9 Lbs
Weight (Bottle Model)5.8 Lbs7.3 Lbs

So we have an air rifle that’s much more maneuverable, lighter and easier to carry. You can see the carbine being more suited to hunting, pesting and plinking.

Conversely, the full length gun would excel (again relatively) at target shooting and longer-range stuff.

Now, of course, there’s always a price to be paid for everything in life. In the case of the Avenge-X Tactical Carbine, it’s somewhat less power and a lower number of shots per fill.

The next table shows how that works…

CarbineFull Length
Max Power .17721 Ft/lbs29 Ft/Lbs
Max Power .2238 Ft/Lbs49 Ft/Lbs
Max Power .2550 Ft/Lbs60 Ft/Lbs
Max Shots .177 (Tube/Bottle)55/95110/210
Max Shots .22 (Tube/Bottle)35/6580/180
Max Shots .25 (Tube/Bottle)30/6055/110

Now, the Carbine’s performance is still very good. So the question for potential owners is an interesting one, indeed.

Below we see a comparison between the bottle gun (top) and tube version. As with the full-length version, Air Venturi provides a choice for its customers.

As a reminder, the action is the same on both models, as we see below.

And the price? Well, it’s the same for both the Avenge-X Tactical Carbine and the full-length model. That’s a selling price of $529.99 for the tube guns and $759.99 for those powered by an HPA bottle.

Tough choice, eh?

I think it's great to have choices right out of the gate. The price is a little steep for the "bottle" version. I don't consider that thing a bottle either, it's a fattened cylinder, bottles only have one opening in my old school book. Great guns though, with amazingly accurate barrels considering the price they charge. If somebody can't find a configuration for this gun that pleases them, then there is no pleasing them at all.

The person who can't be with pleased was first in this thread.😉

Actually, I am going to amend my statement above, there is one configuration they left out, a regular bottle version. Every PCP enthusiast on this site probably has a couple of extra bottles, from some other PCP, laying about. There is, pretty much, a standard sized bottle, but they chose to be different. I think, in this instance, they chose poorly. The aftermarket will step up, I'm sure.

No planed by design.. your stick buying from them and they hold you hostage .. and you you pay max inflated pricing ..lol

Ya, I'd have to be on pcp to fall for PCP 😜

Now I'm not 100% sure on this, however I believe there is some sort of government restriction in China in manufacturing what we regard as a regular HPA tank. So my belief is that this is the way the factory managed to provide a "bottle" solution while staying within the law in China.

Again, I THINK - not 100% sure - that there's no PCP air rifles manufactured in China that come with a China-manufactured HPA bottle. The Gauntlet bottle is not manufactured in China, for example.

I'm a thinking The get around is "air tanks for sports " . Ya, a lot of china gun stuff you just can't go to like Alibaba and find one just to buy .

So..... Tube and bottle are not interchangeable? That 529 is probably pushing it but that 859 is over the edge ..lol maybe should of kept things at 359?
As bad as I hate to say it, the tube version would be max I would ever spend. If I could talk somebody into holding one to my head to force me to do it. I love my pellet guns, and I do use them for pests, but that kinda money for the bottle guns is gonna be for PB's only.

Yeah, but I doubt it. I don't doubt your sincerity, I thought the same thing once, coming from powder burners. The thing is, I liked shooting PCP so much that I haven't shot my powder burners since I started. Then slowly I started cannabilizing my PB's for scopes and slings. Then I realized that since I'm shooting PCP so much, I want them to be as good as my PB's were, and I shoot them so much more that it really made sense....that's how I fell down the rabbit hole.

Now I won't deny at all what I shoot more. Pellet guns daily. But, for me,and I hate to admit it, but my pellet guns are nothing more than training tools and pesters. Much more powerful and accurate now, but lord forgive me, they still a step above Red Ryder's. As much as I love them, they will never be worth near that kind of money to me.

It took me years to see it, and finally a really good airgun, but I have, and I believe my AAA paradigm is as good as any powder burner, for how I use it, which is a whole lot more than I use my rimfires these days, and where I feel I am not wasting my money. I definately was wasting my money on firearms that I almost never shot, no more.

I shot more lead through my EVOL in the last two weeks then I have in ANY other gun I own in the last 20 years.
my wife who shoot a lot less the I do shot more lead through her BRK this past month then other gun we own in the last 20 years.
and it was cheap to do.

I had a friend that would not even consider a nice PCP and after a few hunt with me using my EVOL he now owns one.

I do shoot a lot more lead in my PCPs than out of anything else I own. Daily shooting does that. And I do squirrel and rabbit hunt with my .22 pcps, along with the trash pandas and foxes that get around my animals. To me they are great fun tools. All I'm sayin is that i ain't gonna spend

800ish bucks for any jumped up Red Ryder. Just my humble opinion.

I agree. I bought the Wood (traditional) version because it wasn't absolutely ugly...unlike that Monstrosity they call the Bottle version. Extra shots..Great..Aesthetics....Frankenstein on Crack....

Until you actually know though, you are missing my point, that a really good one is not a jumped up Red Ryder at all. Regardless of your point that you are not going to spend money on it. The materials and machining of titanium and 7075 aluminum, super rigid rugged barrels, if you have have a Red Ryder it is basically a cartoon character next to an AAA.
