The first annual Daystate/BRK Experience Days event took place on 8 and 9 July 2024 at the Oakedge Shooting Ground in Staffordshire, England. So what was it like? The answer is that a great time was had by all. The organizers have already proclaimed the concept a huge success and announced that in 2025 it will be back, but even bigger and better! Airgun enthusiasts from across the United Kingdom took part in the July Daystate and BRK Experience – an extravaganza of shooting, workshops and presentations – at Oakedge Shooting Ground in Staffordshire. More than 150 shooters took advantage of the opportunity to try out the entire Daystate and BRK ranges of rifles, on targets out to 100 Meters. There was a little of the expected...

Recently, Hard Air Magazine looked at the Stoeger XM1 Scout air rifle. Now the related Stoeger XM1 Bullshark PCP is now for sale at Pyramyd Air in .22 caliber. The Bullshark, Scout and Ranger PCPs are obviously members of the same design family. However the Bullshark was the first model – being introduced at the SHOT Show in 2022, while the Scout and Ranger appeared in 2024. (Note that the Stoeger XM1 Bullshark PCP air rifle is known elsewhere in the world as the XM1 Bullpup. It’s available in .177, .22 and .25 calibers. As with other models, Stoeger Airguns differentiates its PCP air rifles by stressing the “human interface” elements of design. The Bullshark is supplied with stock extension pieces and interchangeable pistol grip...
Sub-MOA Barrels is the name of a new phenomenon in the airgun world. It’s a company established specifically to create barrels for use in the highest quality air rifles. Above. Part-finished barrels await the next manufacturing stage. The aim of Sub-MOA is to create the most accurate barrels possible for long-range shooting accuracy. For that, read 100 Yards plus. Particularly when shooting slugs. Think “competition-winning accuracy”. With this aim in mind, it’s no surprise that the company is not intending to flood the mass market with its barrels. These are “best of the best” quality products that are intended for use with the finest air rifles by the most discerning shooters. So yes these are going to be expensive barrels. But...
VALUE FOR MONEY It has to be said that JSB Jumbo Monster Light .22 Caliber 20.83 Grain pellets are relatively expensive. At the time of writing this review, the “headline” price at Pyramyd – that is before the “pay for three get four” program – is 7.5 Cents each. However this is partially due to the fact that they are sold in small, 200-count tins. The pellet count per tin does matter. For example, 18.13 Grain JSB Jumbo Heavy pellets have a headline price of 6.0 Cents each in 250-count tins at Pyramyd. That falls to 4.6 Cents each in 500-count tins. Yes, the Monster Light price falls to 5.6 Cents each if you order four tins from Pyramyd. However HAM Awards are “value” awards that are based on a relationship between price and...
During a recent trip to Arizona, I was able to shoot the new semi automatic Western Airguns Rattler 45 PCP air rifle. What’s it like? The photograph above says it all! The Rattler 45 is the latest version of the Western Airguns Rattler PCP platform. With the exception of the caliber, it’s very similar to the existing HAM Gold Award-winning Rattler 357. You can read the full review of that model here. In fact, although all the photographs here are of the Rattler 45, there’s also a companion model – the Rattler 45 Long Strike. Both are very similar. However the Long Strike incorporates a number of differences, as you can see from this table. Rattler 45 Rattler 45 Long Strike Barrel 28 Inches 36 Inches Overall Length 40 Inches...
The new Umarex Gauntlet SL22 and SL25 are now available and shipping from Pyramyd. The SL22 and SL25 are the latest in a progressive series upgrades to the successful Gauntlet platform. The original Gauntlet was a price/performance-busting package that was developed into the Gauntlet 2, primarily with a different stock and more power from a higher regulator pressure. Now the Gauntlet 2 has been improved with a sidelever action. “SL” stands for Side Lever. the SL22 is the .22 caliber model, the SL25 in in .25. The .30 caliber gun was the first to receive the side lever action. HAM readers found out about this back in December 2023. Now sidelever cocking is available on the smaller calibers also. The Umarex Gauntlet SL22 and SL25...
A new product joining the Air Venturi range is the Air Venturi Comp10 PCP air pistol. It’s intended for entry-level competition in 10-Meter events. Hence the name, “Comp10”. Geddit? The first thing to say about the Comp10 is the price. It’s just $599.99, which is attractive for a match-grade target pistol with a regulated action. The gun is supplied in a hard synthetic case. As is expected with match pistols, this is a single-shot .177 caliber model that requires the HPA tube to be removed for filling. In addition to a set of O rings, the Comp10 is supplied with two charging adapters. The smaller one allows it to be connected to a standard “Foster” 1/8-Inch NPT fitting. The larger, brass, part is a DIN-type adapter. Air Venturi...

A Reximex Throne Gen 2 Compact PCP air rifle arrived at the HAM offices recently. So today, we’ll take a first look at it and make some initial observations. First let me say that I like the current trend towards compact PCP airguns. Yes, most of them are bullpups, like the Throne Compact, but not all. And yes, you loose Muzzle Energy and shot count compared to “full length” guns due to the shorter barrel and smaller HPA bottle. But these compact PCPs still provide plenty of power and shots for most people’s airgun shooting needs. They’re ideal for plinking, target shooting, pesting and hunting. Not everyone wants to shoot 100 yard benchrest, so there’s no need for longer range capbility and more power. In particular, they’re...
Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation Partners with Student Air Rifle Program
The Student Air Rifle Program (SAR) has announced the addition of the Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation (MCHF) as a Gold Sponsor. MCHF advances the conservation and appreciation of Missouri’s forest, fish and wildlife resources by applying financial support. In collaboration with donors and other partners, MCHF supports projects dedicated to preserving, conserving and enhancing Missouri’s fish, forests and wildlife resources and projects designed to promote citizen opportunities to use, appreciate, enjoy and learn about those resources. “Providing students with an opportunity to learn firearms safety through an educational target shooting program helps them develop effective decision-making skills, responsibility...
Yes the HAM Community is one year old today! Most of all, I would personally like to thank everyone who has participated with contributions of all kinds. That’s starting Threads, posting Messages and Liking the input of others. The Community would not exist without you! There’s also another group of people who need to be thanked. These are our advertisers. Without such robust and enthusiastic support from the airgun industry, our Community would not exist. Yes, it’s our advertisers who are paying for us to have a good time in the Community! Please thank them by making purchases from HAM advertisers when you shop for airguns and related products. In alphabetical order, they are… – American Air Arms – Airguns of Arizona – Benjamin –...
The Weihrauch HW95S is a new version of this long-running, popular spring/piston air rifle. It includes a newly-designed hardwood stock with adjustable cheekpiece and buttpad. The Weihrauch HW95 was first introduced in 2005 and has – like all Weihrauch models – been progressively improved since then, while retaining the basic specifications and feel. It remains in the middle of the Weihrauch spring/piston range, offering arguably the best of all worlds in a spring/piston air rifle. The new adjustable cheekpiece has push button operation. There’s also a new design of checkering for the walnut-stained hardwood stock. The base Weihrauch 95 is available in four calibers, up to .25 caliber. In fact, if you want a .20 caliber air...
The new Crosman Vantage Plus is a new breakbarrel air rifle that is fed by a manually indexed clip system for rapid follow-up shots. That’s called the “CLIP-fire” system. The CLIP-fire rotary clip holds up to 6 pellets and is manually indexed between shots. The shooter simply actuates the barrel to cock the air rifle, advances the clip, closes the barrel, then fires the next pellet. Product Manager Phillip Guadalupe explained to me that the manual clip system eliminates the need to dig in pockets or tins for extra pellets. It and allows the shooter to keep attention on the target. Best of all it’s “jam proof” he said. Now that’s a really great feature for any air rifle! While designed to operate primarily with the rotary clip...
Recently HAM brought you information that Pyramyd was selling the Reximex Throne Gen2 Compact. Well now, Pyramyd has added further models to the Reximex airgun range. The additional models comprise two PCP rifles and two PCP pistols. Let’s look at them here. First the pistols… The two Reximex PCP air pistols are very similar, as is indicated by their names. There’s a Reximex HP and an HPA model. That’s the HPA in our heading photograph above. Both pistols are sidelever PCPs that are available in .177 and .22 calibers. The primary difference is that the HPA is a pistol only with a choice of pistol grip materials. There’s walnut, red and blue laminate. The Reximex RP has a synthetic pistol grip. Also included is an...
There’s Still Time To Sign-Up For The 2024 FLFT Grand Prix
There’s still time to sign-up for the 2024 FLFT – the Finger Lakes Field Target Grand Prix. This annual event is held in the beautiful surroundings of upstate new York, close to the world-famous Finger Lakes wine-growing area. So I asked Match Director Eric Brewer for some more information on this year’s event. Below. Eric competes too, usually shooting a piston air rifle. Hard Air Magazine: When and Where Is The 2024 FLFT? Eric Brewer: The event is held at Rochester Brooks Gun Club at 962 Honeoye Falls 6 Rd, Rush, NY 14543. The local airport is Rochester NY (ROC) for those flying-in. The dates are July 27th and 28th 2024. Hard Air Magazine: Can You Give Us A Brief History of the Event? Eric Brewer: The club was started in...
VALUE FOR MONEY Well, we didn’t intend to run a full, comprehensive test review of the Crosman Prospect air rifle. It was covered in an informal, unstructured story in May 2024. To be honest, before picking up the gun I felt the Prospect would probably rate a HAM “Meh” Award. But, the more I shot it, the more I realized that here was a really good airgun trying to escape from a somewhat anonymous look and the lack of “personality”. So we decided to go for a full HAM test and we’re glad that we did. Don’t judge a book by its cover! For a selling price of $369.99 the Prospect is actually a very nice air rifle. Five years ago the Prospect’s feature set – a PCP with sidelever action, regulator, shrouded barrel, magazine feed...
If you are lucky enough to have an air rifle in “Safari” trim, you will certainly be interested in the new MTC Optics Copperhead F2 Safari riflescope. With this Safari scope, MTC Optics has provided an unusual and interesting compliment to the Safari editions of airguns from sister companies BRK and Daystate. This includes the Daystate Alpha Wolf, Red Wolf and Huntsman Revere models, together with the BRK Sniper XR Magnum. To explore the combination, I mounted the Copperhead F2 Safari riflescope onto a Safari-finish Huntsman Revere. The result was very pleasing, as you can see from these photographs! Specifically, the Copperhead F2 Safari riflescope has a 4-16 x 44 optical configuration, combined with MTC Optics’ AMD2 reticle and a...
Following HAM’s popular recent look at the long-running BSA R-10 SE, we’re now looking at another timeless classic PCP air rifle – the Weihrauch HW100. As with the BSA, HAM previously reviewed the HW100 back in 2017. In fact, we tested the HW100T model, that’s the full-length rifle with thumbhole stock in .177 caliber. That gun was – and still is – owned by HAM specialist PCP air rifle tester Doug Rogers. On test, Doug’s HW100 earned a HAM Gold Award with an outstanding 94% score. Doug still loves his HW100, but what does the HAM Team think of the current models? So, by way of comparison, in 2024, we’re looking at the HW100 again, however in a somewhat different configuration. The current gun is a carbine with walnut sporter-style...
