What'cha doing air gun related today?

Wish I had something new and interesting airgun related to share on here but I don't. I mean, I shoot off the bench on my home range every single morning unless my wife and I are gone out in the boat trout fishing. I cycle through my PCPs and they all shoot as well, or better than my expectations so I have no work to do on them. Kinda in a 'rut' for something new and exciting to do with the airgun hobby at this time of year.

I only hunt rock chucks, ground squirrels and coyotes with my air rifles and right now I am in between the times I hunt anything.

If you read this and feel like you wasted a minute of your time I don't blame ya.

No time wasted, but it does leave me with a couple of questions for you:
1. How far do you generally shoot from the bench each day?
2. What is the maximum (convenient) range that your backyard range allows?

I shoot almost daily at 100 yds in my backyard. I can extend that to about 115yds in about five minutes. By setting up in my driveway and shooting diagonally, I can shoot at around 150yds, doable, but inconvenient.

I shoot two distances as all my rifles have either a 38yd or 50yd zero for their hunting use. My steel plate backstop is set at 52yds and I just move my target stand to either of my two distances and don't move the steel plate. I could stretch my out-the-window range to about 70yds if I moved the steel backstop. Beyond that distance I hit our woven wire fence.

In order to shoot further, which I occasionally do, I have to load up my stuff into our SxS or pickup and drive about a 1/4 mile out back of the house.

To be honest, I've never really wanted to shoot my air rifles on target at 100yds (or further). Back about 35-years ago when I started into these precision air rifles I did so because they were to be used at short range, on small vermin. I guess that is still where my interest is for airgun use. I don't see myself ever getting into the long range game with air rifles.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that there is quite an interest for some folks in stretching the distance for air rifles..., I'm just not one of them.

Got out before the storm and did trigger pull test on the Ascent (~2lb average), little 3 shot group at 25 yards, rang the at 45 yards, then 8 shots from 50 yards off-hand, unsupported, in under a minute, at my bell. From 3100 to ~3625 psi took 30 pumps both times (about 5 shots). After 8 shot group and additional shot for uncocking the gun, I just used the compressor.

I’m not sure why. I’ve used it a bunch of times and @duchunter007 tried it.
I just tried it on my iPhone. I’m not at home or I would’ve scored a target.

Cleaned up and shot my SIG SAUER M17 with the now nearly impossible to find Air Reflex Sight. It's belt fed which I find easy to shoot. The red dot sight completely changes the nature of this gun. Pew-Pew!

Just finished firing 190-pellets (three weights) through three PCP rifles. Fired 5-shot groups at 50yds and 38yds with all rifles.

Was one of those rare mornings with the wind literally flat dead! Was also overcast as rain approached (raining as I write this) so the lighting was also constant as the morning moved along. Was about as close as I could get to indoor shooting but actually shooting outdoors.

Just amazing to see how accurate and consistent our air rifles are when most of the outside influences on the projectile are taken out of the POI.

When there is just a breath of wind, and especially when that light breeze is switching, it's easy to think any number of things are wrong with our rifles??? When in fact, minor POI variation with our air rifles is almost always related to the wind. That's my opinion..., of course you may not agree.

This morning I was moving my target stand to random distances, then checking distance with my rangefinder. Purpose was to check my 'dial-ups' against my shirt pocket drop chart. All drops checked-out so I am ready for some ground squirrel shooting!

Since I don't use a smart-phone my ballistic data is 'old school'..., shirt pocket drop chart.
