What'cha doing air gun related today?

Leak check this morning seems like holding air well on the Ascent. View attachment 21605Also got out before family was up this morning and answered a challenge. Off-hand, standing, 15 yards, lever action bb gun vs 5 cans for cowboy speed and fun.View attachment 21606
That is exactly how I dressed for 23 1/2 years at AT&T climbing towers to just fixing some old ladies kitchen phone jack.

My oldest Grandson who just turned 21 is also a Lineman. We sent him to Northwest Lineman College in Idaho where he graduated a couple years back.

My grandson has fired some of my ariguns many times but still his interest is with firearms.

Started Father's Day camping and airgunpalooza. Not a lot of shooting Day 1, but I did get to hold an AirForce Talon, and shoot a Tom Palmer custom daisy rifle 90 yards. Also held a Crosman 66, and watched my youngest shoot it and continue to chant one more time. Also, both boys begged to shoot the m4, so we took a few shots st sunset.

The real shooting session should be tomorrow. Texan, Netvor, Talon, Ascent, Barra Sportsman 900, Vapor Max, M4-177, blue streak, 362 anniversary, Avanti 753, and Dragonfly Mk2 at least are on the table. Hopefully also a mamas only shooting session, my wife has been talking about shooting the Texan for a few days.

Have a blessed weekend.

The scopes are mounted and they're ready to rock. One thing I really like is that they both have internal baffles now. It is such a shame Airforce did not have a picatinny rail and a side bolt and just have had one straight rail from front to back so you could get your scope mounted lower, instead for that dovetail riser. Yucca Foo. I feel like it would have made a lot of people happier. That is one of the biggest design problems with airguns. Most of them will not let you mount your scope really low on the barrel and that would make a hugh difference in hold over for hunting. If you could mount your scope 1/4-1/2 inch above the barrel they would all, be pretty flat shooting at hunting ranges, I would think.

I have managed a couple of scopes to be right above the barrel, and it is oh so sweet.

Airgun shenanigans were great today! Started out with some simple M4-177, first shots on Crosman 66, and red ryder style guns. Verified zero and started range testing my Vapor Max with its crossbow scope at 5 pumps (more on that in a moment). This portion was done with the kiddos.20260620_112912.webp

Then I got to watch some shooting of the AirForce Talon before sitting down and taking 3 shots of my own. First shot ever with the gun, I nailed a golf ball at 50 yards and sent it flying 25. Next I shot with bad hold gouge at 89 yards and made wood crack sounds. The next one I had the correct hold for the distance given to me and sent a frying pan tucked away in the trees a swinging with resounding force. This confirmed that I need a TalonP or Talon in my arsenal.

I also took my first shots with the AGT Vulcan 3 chambered in 25 cal with digital scope (also a first for me). Made a beautiful little 3 shot group at 74 yards and then also shot impactfully at the 89 yard pan.

Some various swaps, holds, and shots were taken with guns amongst the group of us then we began to have fun with the Air Venturi Ascent in 25 cal. I took my first shots and sighted in the 4x32 pack in scope at 50 yards. After pumping back up to full, I shared the love and joy and let others mag dump to see shots per fill. On shot 23 the gun emptied the air reservoir and then I used a compressor to refill to 250 bar. Follow on shooting with it I found it required 8 pumps per shot to maintain the gun pressure steady. Throughout the day it saw 6 different shooters (one being my toddler) take shots with it. My oldest son smacked the 25 yard target authoritatively a few times, and then caused the 50 yard target to spin on its axis during his shooting, which tickled him.

During this time, there was also some big bore love given. The AGT Netvor and my AirForce Texan LSS, both chambered in 458, took some shots down range. I did not bring my nsa 350gr slugs I normally shoot, instead testing some 315gr slugs I had gotten from a vendor no longer making slugs. The Texan did not like them, giving me a 2ft group at 50 yards... but my wife didn't care when it was her time to shoot it. I fear she will steal this gun from me one day.

I returned to the Vapor Max to walk out to the 89 yard frying pan and figure out holds. The 20 yard circle works for 20-25 yards. At 50 yards I was about halfway between 30 and 40 yard circles. At 75 yards I was using the 50 yard circle or so, and at 89 yards I hit the pan using about 60 yard circle. The marks don't line up for 5 pumps, but that doesn't surprise me and I may try again sometime with 3 pumps.20260620_194618.webp

The night was ended with some red ryder and other various guns again, and then pulling out the Dragonfly Mk2 and attempting to sight it in. The gun is still not sighted, and I continue to find it underwhelming and my least favorite pump gun. Hopefully once I zero the scope (it was shooting far left and.... who knows what else) I can start to find some joy from it.

All in all. A very blessed day of airgun fun.20260620_124213.webp20260620_130150.webp20260620_131434.webp20260620_132855.webp20260620_150502.webp20260620_151614.webp20260620_191902.webp20260620_202729.webp

I shot the Zelos today. I finally got it to stop leaking air. Other than leaking from day one I think it is a very nice gun. Not too heavy, good power and plenty of shots. I did not take pictures today because I was only shooting at 25 yards to zero the scope, and to get an idea of what it would do, but it shot very well. I tried all different regulator settings from 2400-2800 and played with the hammer spring some for different pellet weights and slugs, but I think I will end up around 2400-2600psi. I had thought I might run it higher for 34 grain pellets and slugs, but I really like the way the 25 grain pellets shoot at the lower pressures so I think I will stick with them, and grizzlies do well also and just enjoy great accuracy and lots of shots this time around. It is still more than enough power for taking a coon. I really enjoyed using the Maple single shot tray. I need to get some Hades and some Polymags to try out.

Attempted to remove the 2nd plenum on my Notos, didn't work. It is STUCK. So for now it stays. Turned the regulator down to 1750-1700 psi and hammer spring backed all the way out. Shoots Norma 17.6 at 830-820 fps. Shot count drops to 20 from 25. I still need to file down back of the trigger assembly to allow my hammer spring adjuster to back out further. No more time, studying for a plumbing license for another state. Class starts Tuesday evening. I'm coming closer to the Notos being in tune, I believe 😆. If I can back it out with the regulator lowered to it's current point and get 800 fps or a lil less I think it will be the optimal area for power/shot count for the 11.75" barrel. Happy father's day folks

Finally got a chance for a shot at the yard starlings when the wife wasn't in a position to catch and chastise me. 25 yds with the Notos and CPHP's for 1 dead starling....it's about time!!!
