What'cha doing air gun related today?

Got on the bench extra early this morning before there was any wind other than down thermals. Both the 250z and the Daystar were making tiny 'bug hole' groups at 38yds and 50yds. When the wind is still I can focus on getting my rifle's zero very precise.

I use 38yds for my second zero distance on my ground squirrel rifles and 50yd zero for my rock chuck and coyote rifles.

EDIT: I was inspired by Scriv's photo (above) so I added one. My rifle doesn't have the character Scriv's rifle has but it makes up for it with it's accuracy! :)

Notice my Daystar has a biathlon style cocking lever instead of the 'butter knife' lever that it comes with. Also notice the barrel is free-floated as the barrel-band is removed. I found a longer cap for the fill adapter that takes-up the gap where the barrel band use to sit.

I prepared my rare vintage Crosman 761XL for sale online. It's in near mint condition with a period correct all metal Crosman 4x15 Japanese manufactured scope featuring very clear glass. All wood furniture and rifled steel barrel. They definitely don't make them like this anymore.

That is an absolutely gorgeous pumper. 😍

Umarex Notos: Ported a new stock barrel to 11/64th and a lil extra, cleaned the barrel as well. Removed 600mm barrel, air cylinder extension from notos and put it back together as it was intended. I couldn't get a portion of the plenum to move with strap wrenches so I left it. I was going to try to leave 25cc plenum and remove 40cc but it wouldn't budge. Anyways 1800 psi reg pressure it's shooting H&N 15.89 845-830 fps and Norma heavy 17.6 825-810fps. Same as before my experiments but the regulator pressure was 2300!!! No differences other than dropping pressure. I'll have to check out accuracy later. Threw on an old school leapers 6x scope and she is back in business.

Edit: 🙄OH I need to find the size of the barrel screw that threads into the set screw, holding the pic rail, it's missing. Can't check accuracy without it. Happy shooting!

Edit: this evening I dropped the reg pressure to 1700 psi and it's using a lot more air. 3 shots I went from 3100 psi to 2200/2100 in the air cylinder (I filled to 3100 psi twice and same result). Lower regulator pressure combined with the hammer weight causing too much dwell time for a short barrel?? It jumped up the H&N 15.89s to 890 fps range. I can make a lighter hammer weight to test with lower reg pressure..... Higher reg pressure seems to conserve air better with the existing set up.

I wish I could learn more about my R9. I’m seeing if I can use it for piston class field & target. I zeroed it in at 25 yards, but around 40 yards or so on, I’m not consistent or accurate. Thoughts?
In 2006, my airgun club made the R9 illegal for match competitions. Of course nobody really enforced it. Crazy, but true. I'll always have mine.

Summer time starts for the kids in Nebraska this week, fresh out of school.Shot some with 13 yr old step kids and they had fun. Ended a lil early as one jammed some (3???) 13.43 monster pellets in the .177 liberty. Well that's my fault for not keeping track of his motions and the heavy spring is harder to cock. Looks like I'm taking the barrel off, might as well clean it. Maybe more. Check the port sizes and improve flow. I jumped my Notos Reg up to 2000 psi from 1700, better shot count than before and it was shooting well for them.

I misread this at first, and was very concerned about what you did to the step kids. Glad you were able to share the joy of Airgunning with them. It's disappointing to here school is out, as I will be there for zoo beginning of next week and was hopeful school would still be in session to keep crowds down.

Well I suppose I could use my english a little more clearly! I promise no children were harmed today 😂. These guys are 13 yr old twins and boy do they look almost 16, big for there age. One of them has an eagle eye, heck they both are pretty sharp. Now that after school sports are done I'll have some time to hang with them. It's more fun some times to watch them dual on the targets than shooting myself.

I definitely love to be shooting. But I'm also just as tickled to watch others having a grand time with airguns.

Ran out after work, to beat the rain and get some trigger time in. Started out with verifying zero at 25 yards, 2 pumps, with Ole Blue. Particularly important since I had removed and reinstalled the 4x32 scope. Still minute of FT squirrel! From there I posted up a Memorial Day Challenge, and proceeded to attempt it in the increasingly windy conditions. 20260521_150311.webp

The targets were not Particularly large, but I still scored a few hits. For a whole 35 out of 350 total points. 😅20260521_152601.webp

I set my streak aside, and grabbed my Seneca Dragonfly Mk2 in .22, to finally take some first shots and gather my first thoughts on it. This was going to be my July #YearofthePumper gun, but since I have 2 barrels and no Ascent until maybe the end of August I had to rearrange my plans. After some scatter plot shooting with CPHP at various pumps, I decided to start on the HAM Bell Challenge at 10 meters. I finally found a hold that was in the circles at least and said "good enough" as I settled for seeing what 3 pump groups looked like, and scoring a 21/50 on 10 shots.

Not great, but also by no means a good showing of gun or shooter. More to come down the road for sure. As I was finishing up, the heavens opened up and unloaded on me. So I grabbed the rifles and ran for the house. They both got a nice rub down before being put away.

My toddler was watching, and wanted to shoot pew pews too. So I had him wait for dad to finish, then we set up a domino's box with insulation foam backing at 6 yards in the house and shot the Daisy 188 together. He got to learn and practice safety and "range rules", and we both got to build memories together. ❤️20260521_201515.webp20260521_201655.webp
