USA Airgun Warranties – It’s Five Years For Daystate!

1753746218107.webp

Today we’re talking about airgun warranties. Specifically the warranties on high-end PCP air rifles here in the USA.

Why? Well in our review of the HAM Gold Award-winning Daystate Black Wolf last week, I said that the warranty for this gun is 3 years and implied that this is low.

Actually this is not true. In the USA, it’s 5 years. I stand corrected. And I already made the change in the review.

Although the HAM Team goes to great lengths to get everything we publish correct, I made an error here. And if anyone doubts that I can be wrong, they can check with my wife. She will soon set them straight ;-)

Secondly, I received the comment that it’s not appropriate to compare the warranty period provided on a simple product – like the 3622 – with a complex, highly-sophisticated airgun like a Blackwolf. I think that’s a fair point too.

It’s an engineering truism that the more parts a product has, the more likely it is to experience an issue in long-term use. For example, with PCP airguns, it’s widely accepted that the more O rings a design contains, the more leak points there are.

Airgun Warranty Background

So what is the story about high-end airgun warranties? Let’s check-out the situation…

Firstly product warranties are not the same in all countries. The factory (UK) Daystate warranty is 3 years. But Airguns of Arizona increases it to 5 years coverage in the USA – thanks AoA! – and I didn’t check that. (That’s how the mistake occurred).

Even the most perfect product can have post-manufacturing issues, although they are likely to be infrequent. That’s why they provide post-sale warranty coverage. (For example, it’s 4 years for Rolls Royce motor cars sold in the USA).

Also it’s important to understand that warranty coverage is not free for the company providing it – for any product, not just airguns. Any warranty incident is a negative cost for the company as it involves time and effort managing, fixing and returning the product – not to mention communicating with the customer.

That’s why initial product quality is so important – not only to buyers, but also to dealers and distributors.

USA Airgun Warranties In Detail

So what is the situation with high-end PCP airgun warranties in the USA?

To answer this question, I’m making three assumptions.

One, “high end” means a price of more than $1,000.00. Secondly, that the warranty period is correctly reflected on the websites I’ve linked-to below. Third, that the warranty period is the same for all models from the same manufacturer.

Here’s what I found…

BrandUS Warranty PeriodReference
Air ArmsLimited Lifetime
Air Force1 Year
Anschutz2 Years
Benjamin5 Years
BRK3 Years
Daystate5 Years
Edgun1 Year
Feinwerkbau1 Year
FX Airguns3 Years
Hatsan1 Year
Karma Airguns1 Year
RAW1 Year
Skout3 Years
Umarex3 Years
Walther1 Year
WeihrauchLimited Lifetime
Western Airguns1 Year

If any of the above data is incorrect, plus for products that I have missed, please let me know in the HAM Community.

In addition, if extended warranties are really your thing, you can find extended, additional cost warranties from Airguns of Arizona, for example. With AoA’s “Warranty Booster” you could extend your Blackwolf warranty to a total of 8 years!

USA Airgun Warranties - It's Five Years For Daystate!

So, it’s true. The warranty coverage provided by Airguns of Arizona for Daystate PCP air rifles is longer than that for most other major brands. It’s also longer than that provided by Rolls Royce for their cars.

Now we know!

It is interesting that AGD lists the tex rex Carbine as 1 year, but the tex rex as the standard lifetime of airforce. For reference, here is AirForce Airguns warranty information straight from their own website where you register:

I am not smart on this topic as most of you are. However, it would seem to me that if you can afford to spend $3,500 on an Air Rifle you have a right to expect more than a 1 year warranty. One more like Air Arms provides. But I do understand the personal dynamics behind wanting the Air Rifle you want and cost may be secondary. It is just unfortunate that costly issues can start to occur at the end of 1 year of ownership thus be just out of warranty.
Additionally, it would seem like some of these companies will make more money with shorter warranties and charging you to fix issues you may not be able to fix yourself, IMHO.

I see AirForce lifetime warranty as an easy call for them. Their design is so simple and robust that not much can go wrong. Unless, like me, that warranty goes right out the window as I modify the rifle.

Warranty, in general, are useless to me. I dont have many, if any, newly purchased guns I have not modified and voided the warranty almost immediately.

Thanks Mr. Archer, Just received my BlackWolf just the other day and remember reading in the paperwork only 3 years. Same happened with the Delta Wolf. Hats off to you and AOA.
Thank You!

Dear MCarter54, Enjoyed your post. I would like to add what I think is the most important feature the distributor can provide. This is that your rifle will be returned to you as received. IE, no inconquencial damage to your firearm which will lessen its value at time of resale. AOA does a wonderful job

Well after investigating the barrel interior with my borescope I decided that I needed to clean the barrel before shooting.
Well for 3 days I soaked the barrel with silicone. Got a lot of the factory stuff out with VFG felts and silicone.
But the last 2" would not release the stuff in the lands and grooves.
The 2" at the muzzel just would not clean up so I got a VFG felt (actually 3) and USP bore paste with a drop of silicone, using 1/4"strokes for the last 2" of barrel and the bore is pristine.
Finally shot the BlackWolf only 10 shots but so far so good.
