This Remington Model 9 (1902 Rider side cocker) has been in my family for well over 100 years. My Gt Uncle bought it knew circa 1910,and it passed to my Grandfather, to my Father, and to me in 1973. I shot it one time about 50 years ago just for completeness sake. It was used as a functional hunting tool to put food on the table. My uncle fell while hunting and cracked the stock at the tang, hence the copper wire. My Father inherited in 1953. In 1960 he restored it to his own liking. The metal was rusty, the wood was scarred and unfinished. The copper wire was intact and the the buttplate was cracked. He took it down to the bare metal and covered it with some kind of clearcoat finish that is still holding up without rust. He removed the forearm and stock, repaired and refinished them to better than new, The buttplate was cracked at several places so he somehow made a mold and poured it with aluminum and recreated the buttplate. If you look close you can see an outline of Remington's logo. Although no longer needed he replaced the copper wire on the tang. It is 12ga 2 3/4 chamber, 30" full choke barrel.
