Others SFP or FFP?

I know most of what I would say has been said, but I’ll still add my thoughts…

SFP and FFP both have their place. I own both. I prefer FFP and would own all FFP if I could, but that gets really expensive!

SFP - a few situations…

1. I don’t mind SFP when I want high magnification scope (40-50x top end) and don’t want to pay the super high price it takes to get a quality FFP scope with that top end.
2. I am ok with a SFP scope when I am shooting one distance, or even when I am going to leave the magnification at one range and never touch it. I can then make a dope card for the holdovers, because who wants to do the math to figure out what each line calculates to, since they are set for 1 magnification only. Having to make calculations just gives one more opportunity for error.
3. My old hunting rifles that are 3-9x at most, and I know where to aim because I have shot the rifle so long.

FFP - Why I like them more…

1. I like the thicker lines in my old age for the magnification ranges that I mostly use. I rarely ever use the lowest end on these scopes, so I don’t mind that they are so small most of the time. There are some rifles that have FFP on them and use 1x, but I’m not counting lines when I am zoomed out for those.
2. I don’t have to do math. (I know I keep bring it up and I love math.) The reticle is calibrated, no matter the magnification. Hallelujah! One less error to possibly make when you possibly have many other things going on (which target am I shooting, how much time do I have, and on and on.

Whether I’m clicking or holding over, there are still times when I’m glad that it requires no more thought than to look at the reticle and decide to click or not to click and just know what the adjustment is and take the shot.

Neither one is right or wrong, and it is always a personal preference. Just like MOA and MIL.
