Official 2025 SHOT Show Thread

Macavity is stepping up. They're releasing an MA3 that fixes the stock problem with a laminate thumbhole version and it has an externally adjustable regulator along with a carbon fiber shroud for only a $100 more than the MA2.

They are showing an MA8 too that is so far out there that it looks like vaporware to me. I will believe it when I see them for sale. I won't bore you with the details because everyone will be talking about it for a while anyway. Definitely an ambitious year for them.

Edit....I just figured it out 🤣

I may go to IWA...still thinking on it. Shot Show wasn't too fun last time I went. As a dealer it's hard to talk to companies with influencers trying to get free stuff everywhere.
I will be at IWA. Have been for many years. For airguns it's waaay more useful than the SHOT Show. See you there 😀

Yes I was there & released my SteadyShot & SmartTarget, the SmartTarget was really REALLY well received - as its applicable to powder burners & they absolutely loved it.

I had 2 guest tickets available, but couldnt give them away!
IWA - there's a lot of very young guys there on the last 2 days, that mysteriously own retail shops it seems.
I'll have to do a write-up soon.

There was also not a lot of airgun stuff there, but a decent amount. You could spend 1-2 days if you went deep i'd say.

Its also really hard/interesting that some airgun specific brands *cough* NateChrony *cough* - didnt get any write-ups from people that were there, visited the booth, & wrote up other brands...

So what else was there that they didnt write-up???

Your going to have to be your own rainmaker. Post stories about using your chrony in different scenarios on the different forums once a month. These forums are where your customers are, so it would make sense to hang out occasionally and engage. New people are joining all the time.

Nate, I am glad that the SHOT Show was good for you! This was the first time in 20 years that I did not - voluntarily - attend the Show. But I will be attending the IWA Show in Germany next month and am expecting to see a lot of new airgun stuff there...

Look forward to your write-up 😀

Different forums have different rules, I respect the forums & unless explicitly allowed (i.e. trade areas & sponsored sections) I dont do sneaky advertising.

Its incredibly hard to build brand awareness - maybe a write up on this later...
Influencers are HORIFFIC, so many are just shills for specific brands & produce nothing...

Its hard to find the right balance - but i've given up on influencers & will be focusing only on paid places which guarantee that content is produced, instead of throwing out $5k of product with no results!

I can imagine it's not easy getting feet planted, especially being a one man show. Going to events like RMAC, EBR, PACup and various other events you can participate would be helpful I think. Sometimes when people are passionate about something it can come across as "clandestine" advertisement. Not sure what kind of problems you have had with "influencers" I absolutely hate that word...but, some of us do actually work very hard. Hopefully next year I can attend IWA, definitely on my bucket list.

I'm super interested in the SmartTarget, and was hoping there would be more about it released during shot show.

I'm no influencer, but you've been a great help to me and I'll continue to share about it to the few who listen to me. Speaking of shot show announcements, what do you think are the chances of the chrony working with the big Tex-Rex? I'll ignore the behemoth anti-tank 95 cal Zeus for this equation.

There will be a full carbon version out soon(ish) that a customer put a 457 Texan @ 750-800 ft/lbs through without issue.

Check my socials for new products & there should be some videos from people out shortly that attended the show & filmed me.

Events... As a small startup in Australia... a US event is $5k for flights, $2k for hotels, $2k for expenses as a starting point.
I reached out to an event & asked - "hey i'm a small start up with limited budget, can you do a small 1/2 table for a new comer or something like that?"
To which I heard back "the fees are stated in our material, $5k minimum & its probably not worth having a call with you"

Influencers just dont deliver - you send out stuff & they never do anything.
or they refuse to - as "they sell brandX chronographs on their site & this would be a competitor - so i wont produce content for your product".

I dont bother with anyone over 20k subs, & check their videos - if you see the same brand over & over, or written on their clothing... its a shill channel & they wont openly review other brands

Yes traveling can be very expensive, going and doing all this is an investment in yourself though. On my end the camera equipment, fuel cost and many hours of editing all adds up. This is one reason I don't work in trade for products, my time usually outweighs the products worth. Respectfully, didn't you know all this before you sent products out for review? Typically when entering into an agreement it's protocol to have a contract so everyone is on the same page. The Airgun industry can be super cutthroat and the people can be very brand loyal and clicky, for me that's still very frustrating. Just try to find a place you fit in, you already have cool products that set you apart so I'd say you are halfway there. Distributors can be a good avenue as part of them being a distributor is to push the product, advertise etc,
