Hi All!

I've been loaned an HW-30 - first experience using an air rifle.

Recently my accuracy got weird - the holes on the target are all lining up on the left/right horizontal axis, but the vertical accuracy is all over the place. (hope that made sense)

I'm guessing this seal needs replacing. Is there anything special or obscure about doing this? It looks like 'remove the old with a dental pick, replace with new' but...

Also - is there an especially good place to get the replacement?

Thanks!

I wish that I could be of better help to you, but the best I can do is recommend a couple of reliable YouTube 'ers: the first is Pellets and Pistons, followed by TbT airrifletuning. Both of these guys give reliable information. Another reliable resource is Tom Gaylord's blog on the Pyramyd AIR. web page. Hope to have helped, and welcome to our HAM Community. Orv.

I should have said above: tinbum tuning and Vortek are the most reliable resources that I'm aware of. Orv.

I had a vintage Beeman R7 (same as HW30) with the same issue. I picked the crumbled old seal out with a brass pick cleaned and decreased the groove and replaced it with a seal I purchased from Pyramyd Air. I was buying a bunch of pellets anyway, so the shipping was free. I put a drop of silicone chamber oil on it and slid it into the groove. Perfect fit the first time.

Easy things first. A seal can be had from airguns of Arizona. A pick will work as long as you can get the seal out being respectful of the steel. Lots of other good advice in this thread. When you see what a good seal looks like you will laugh at that one.
It is common knowledge that HW springs are not the best quality and will fail somehow in a relatively short time. Just about all tuners replace springs right away. Since the OP has the gun apart, why not?

True, but i did not equate cocking the rifle to replace the breech seal as having the gun apart. This is what is depicted in the photo. If I were replacing a piston seal, I would certainly opt for a spring replacement while I was at it. All of this assumes that I haven't missed something in the OP.

Yeah Jim, I've had a few over the last month. Have not been able to do much of anything.
70% grounded. Or more. And they don't expect things to be near normal till June.
I'm wearing down.
At least I can still check in here most days 😊
Lord Jaabaa, that dont sound very healthy! Well, let em take good care of you, and follow the docs orders to a T, so you get well quicker anyway. My wife just said I'm much better at giving that advice than I am at taking it..Lol . I've kvetched all day wanting out to shoot, after yesterdays fun filled cut session, so I don't guess I'm taking the same advice much at all. Keep telling her I am resigned to my fate as the doc tells it, so I intend on having what fun I can while I can.

Vortek tuning has a breech seal for the HW30

Thanks much, I really miss the hobby that consumed me the last ... 7;years.
Still have Airgun stuff to use and test and just have not been able to do it.

Hokey smokes that is the worst breech seal I have ever seen!
I replaced the one in my Slav 630 last year "just because" and it was 15+ years old and looked great compared to that one. 😬
Using a metal pic to get that crusty seal out is fine just be gentle, don't scratch anything.
While we're on the topic, does anyone know what HW breech seals are made of? 🤔
My new HW 50, that i bought a few months ago also has a white breech seal.
