Howdy all ... JohnnyS here. Back into air-gun after about a 60 year hiatus (following that youthful early AG decade or so), that extended period being a 100% PB era. Now down to about 25/75 PB to AG. But, the ear-ringing still follows from past early failure to understand the need for hearing protection ... but now into this exciting new era of AG doing and learning. Some PCP, some springer, mostly pumpers. Some 'smithing work, some refinish work, a little collecting, a lot of reading (about AG's) and a lot of shooting. "Two kids and a dog" sorta life - split time between family venues - places that both have great geographic and political textures. Mostly love the contrasts (with some notable exceptions). Cornfields to Sub-Alpine Conifers - Pheasants to Ptarmigan. Life is Good (mostly).

Welcome to Ham! I gotta ask lol....the 25/75 is a percentage? Or you actually own 75 airguns?! What pcps and springers do you own?

25 percent powder burner these days (mostly Cowboy Action Shooting) and 75 percent airgun .... PCP count ... 1 - Marauder .22 with Lothar ... Hy-Score / Diana / Slavia / Beeman springers (and lots of Daisy) ... and mostly Crosman pneumatics both Air Rifles and Pistols ... have lost count on numbers ... my wife estimates these days in "Piles" ....
:)

Welcome to the HAM forum. What's the pcp airguns you have in your collection? Nice to have you here!

Actually just have one owned PCP ... Marauder .22 with wood stock / Lothar barrel. Have toyed with others but nothing too sophisticated yet.
Hand pump, compressor or dive tank, how do you fill your Mrod?

Since you have entered the Rabbit Hole, what are your plans to grow your collection? New, used, big bucks, mid bucks, low bucks?

Given your obvious smithing experience I will just assume you will be modifying and upgrading as you fall further down the Rabbit Hole 🙂

The rabbit hole is deep ... there seem to be multiples ... bottomless in some cases me thinks.

Locally filled Catalina 80 cu ft scuba tank with yolk adapter at the moment ... looking at compressors (watching the technology continue to improve so far) ....

Used mostly .... low to mid bucks.

"Smithing" at the moment is limited to rebuilding of pneumatics, cold blue work, seals/gaskets, stocks and some limited springer work and rebuilding Daisy BB guns (springs and seals mostly).

Dabbling in some replacement period stocks ... looking at reproduction of earlier (currently unavailable) stocks. Focused at the moment on Variant 1 - Crosman 760's with Square-Tang

Collecting focused on the variety of Crosman and early Daisy.

Lovin' the fresh learnin'.

One of the great things right now is the latest generation of under $1,000 (and some under $500) guns is the quality has improved significantly. Lots of love for the Barra 250z, Umarex Zelos and Umarex Notos.

Compressors are, unfortunately, lagging in that respect. Very little improvement over the last decade at the low end. Mid range has has some incremental improvement and the high end doesn't really need improvement. A current argument is do you spend $2-4k for a compressor the will run for years with minimal maintenance or a $200 compressor that either requires rebuild annually or replacement.

The other argument is do you buy a reliable but slow mid priced compressor or a much faster compressor that, again, probably requires annual rebuild. For example filling a 9L bottle could take 5 hours vs 75 minutes.

I fall into the under $1,000 gun and rebuild or replace compressor camp.

Hey man welcome to the forum! Great bunch of guys here, plenty to learn about from everyone. Enjoy!

Welcome to our HAMlet, and glad to see another pneumatic lover in the ranks.
Yes, one of my greatest weaknesses lies in 1960's / 70's J.C. Higgins versions of the Crosman pumpers ... that first one was handed to me by my father in about 1961 or 1962 and my learning curve with the shooting sports accelerated. Prior to that, by but a few years only, was a Daisy 25 ... somehow those all "got away" over the years hence. I have since "replaced" them with suitable siblings and many cousins.
