I have recently joined HAM, so still navigating/learning this new system.
I thought I would share my way of judging distances.
I have a Bushnell range finder, good out to 800 yards. By ranging various yardages, I have been able to become very accurate and proficient in my hunting. This can be done anywhere, whether walking the dog, etc. I find it is very, very useful indoors in any store: Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot....well, you get the idea.
I hope this is useful info. It has help greatly.

That's a great suggestion. Using a rangefinder and practicing distance estimation is an excellent way to imropove your hit rate in the field - as you have found. THanks for sharing!

It was one of those "DUH" moments. Been hunting/shooting most of my life (I'm 75 now) and STILL find it relaxing, fun, and enjoyable...more so since I started shooting my Brocock Sniper Magnun in .25.
With Christmas and a birthday coming up. I think I'll buy my wife another one she'll never have time to shoot it...
HAHA

I keep a range finder in my truck, at work, and at home. With the loopy trajectory of these guns, a range finder and Strelok Pro(on my phone), just isn't an option anymore. I range all the time and certain situations always surprise me. Looking uphill/downhill can be very deceiving, along with featureless terrain. Being short 5 yards at 150y on my .30 means 4" low = a miss. Practice helps somewhat but I don't think I will ever go hunting without a range finder.
