I decided to make DIY ballistic gel using info from Youtube. I wanted to use my new Garra 1100z .177 on the gel but the rifle was on the way back to Barra for replacement. So I used my Barra sportsman break barrel with the .177 barrel. Distance is 10 yards.
The pellets left to right are the H&N field target trophy dome lead at 8.6gr. center is the Predator polypoint at 8.0gr and the H&N field target trophy dome alloy at 8.8gr.
The poly point penetrated the least and left the point behind at about the 1" mark. The FTT alloy is only about 2 tenths heavier than the lead counterpart and went almost throughBG1.webpBG2.webp

Ive always wanted to try make some myself. Typical performance/expansion on the Predator polymags, they are an excellent small bore hunting pellet! The tip is sacrificed upon impact and aids in the odd shaped expansion. I shoot them out of my .177 springers for a bit more punch on pests. I wonder what a 10.34gr pellet would do....or a barracuda hunter....or a H&N Hornet....or??😏😎

I have 10.34 hades. I'm going to try and melt down the block, not sure how it will work on the stove, will see. If it works, I'll shoot the hades and show the results. I have Premier Piranha's that are 10.5 but the funny thing is, they don't fit in my Barra sportsman with the .177 barrel but they did fit the Barra 1100z .177 barrel. Goes to show that not all .177 barrels are created equal. LOL
