.22 H&N Precision Slug .22 - your new option for long-range shooting

Right?? How are slug shooters not trying these I have one tin of each (.217/.218) and Im seeing good things with the Brk Ghost slug barrel so it's happening this spring! I have no interest in shooting real heavy slugs at starlings/sparrows and these I am hoping will be very good, i will be focusing on mostly 23-34 gr slugs, esp Patriots. Any and all results will be shared. Im big on "cart before the horse" lol.... i got tons of .22 slugs just no slug shooter. I've been begging the Brk slug barrel owners to give em a go.

Thanks! I will be trying a lot of different slugs from 30 to 42gr with a bias towards higher b.c., and value, in the next couple of months too. I am not just going to be burning money, sending Alteros down range just for S's&G's, though I'd like to. I want to find a value plinker, a hunter, and a hail Mary stupidly long range slug by summer. I'll keep everyone posted. I'm going to be shooting from a 700mm Superior Heavy STX 1 in 16" twist barrel, but a good shooting slug is a good shooting slug, and may perform across brand well too.

Yeah those Zans and alteros 40gr boat tails showed up in stock in Canada finally.....yikes expensive! For what I use em for (inside 125Y) i want better expansion, lighter weight, and....alot cheaper lol. I dont doubt they are the best you can get if pushing real long range.

Checking back in on this thread, and in the interim have shot a couple tins of these, and I am kind of surprised that I haven't read of more people using them. I guess everyone going for high bc is skipping straight to 40gr Altaros. Understandable if you're competing, or just have a lot of money to blow. If you aren't, or don't, these Precision slugs are the best all around slug I have shot so far, price to performance. H&N's 34-38gr heavy slugs look really bad in any kind of wind, shooting against these. Against the high bc ELR ZAN and AirMarksman, these do drift predictably more but I find that for some reason I end up actually hitting more with these. Could be just luck of the draw with errant wind gusts, or just from changing ammo and not letting the gun settle enough, a node thing. I don't know. I do know that these shoot well enough that I'm not bothering with anything else at the moment. I bought some tins at a 7.5 cents a slug, to-my-door price, and considering their performance compared to anything other than ELR stuff, these rule.

Its easy to get caught up in chasing bc but in reality when your talking about a .2or .3” difference at a 100 yds its really not a big difference

Over 150y the bc differences really show up in the wind, over 200y and you want every point you can get. My targets are all under 6", 3" off either way and I miss. I am terrible at judging the wind and need all the help I can get (at realistic prices).

For those of you w/o Strelok:
240y, 5mph from 3 o'clock

The wind drift from the bc difference is 8" vs. 11"
The drop is 88" vs 94"
Retained fps/fpe, 781/45 vs 731/40

The accuracy from the Precision and all of the Heavy H&N's are comparable but the Precision's numbers beat all of them and I keep finding them for less money. Unless they are not shooting as well out of other people's guns, I was just surprised more people don't shoot these

I got the good deal from Hatsan's website. Somebody here, maybe it was Jorg Siemens himself, mentioned in a post that Hatsan was one of their importers or distributers, and I never knew that so I looked and found they often have deals and the best prices.

FYI, they do shoot .14. The first time I put that number in Strelok, clicked the scope, hit dead nuts at over 200y.

Right after I asked I remembered that I was pretty sure I had seen it there. Hatsan is my preferred source of H&N ammo, for the ones they carry. But my guns often like to torture me by preferring the offerings not on their website.
