Thanks Lee. It was allot of work to put on. I got allot of compliments from shooters so it was worth it.

From what I saw on the HAM sight about this competition should explain why so many airgun shooters do not compete in FT. Most of us cannot afford it. It is still a rich person's sport. Custom made airguns and outrageously priced scopes. Really?

Paradoxically Field Target shooting started out as a low cost competition back in the UK in the last century. The idea was that anyone could compete with whatever equipment they normally used for shooting.

But - as with so many things - an "equipment race " soon started and it has never ended. That in turn led to a proliferation of rules and different categories. I guess that is progress!!!

RidgeRunner, what do you currently have in 0.177? And what class would interest you in Field Target?

Myself, I participate in Hunter Piston and use either a 15 year old TX 200 or a used Walther LGU I purchased along with a secondhand discontinued Bushnell 6-24 scope. Yes, these are not available on the cheap at a big box store, but also, I'm quite a bit under $1000.

On the PCP side, there have been multiple National Champions in Hunter PCP that have won using a Benjamin Marauder and at least one using a UTG scope for just north of $500.

Grab what you have and head out to a local match! Pretty sure you'll have fun!

I have several sproinger .177 air rifles. I should also amend my post with the fact that many of these competitors practice several hours a week just for these matches. I do have several spinner targets and on occasion I do "compete" with my grandson and others on my land, but I lack the time to practice and compete formally. If FT returned to its roots, I would likely enjoy getting together with a bunch of shooters, but as things are now, nah.

I still think you and your grandson should attend a match just to see it first hand. It may or may not change anything, but you won't know unless you go.

I do know that at my matches that no matter who uses what or what their skill level or final score is, that everyone has fun and enjoys being around each other every month!

Have fun with your grandson and maybe someday you'll both be able to go to a match together!

If you go with the idea your going to win first time out no you probably won’t have fun. If you go with the idea that you’re going to meet some new like minded people you will probably have fun and possibly make some new friends! I have a $2000 rifle with a $500 scope to compete now and am near the top in our group but i love it even when i started with less equipment and have made a hole bunch of good friends i so look forward to every months matches id be lost without them. As greg said take your springer and grandson if you wish and just enjoy the day and camaraderie! There is nothing better!!!!!
