Crosman M1 Full Auto Air Rifle

1727393661973.pngThe Crosman M1 Full Auto Air Rifle is the latest product to appear from the company. It’s a selective-fire BB shooter that’s powered by two 12 Gram CO2 Powerlets.

Of course, this is not the first time that Crosman has sold a M1 Carbine lookalike. Back in the 1960s, there was an M-1 Carbine that fired BBs but in single-shot mode. In that model, cocking was undertaken by pushing the muzzle down onto a hard surface.

By contrast, the new M1 offers a choice of semi-automatic or full-automatic fire, using the selector/safety switch ahead of the trigger. Crosman claims a selective-fire rate of up to 1,400 rounds per minute in the “happy mode”. And no, this one doesn’t require the user to push down the barrel for cocking!

The new Crosman M1 Full Auto Air Rifle has an internal, 25-shot, BB-loading magazine (arrowed in the photo above). In addition, there’s a 300-BB capacity reservoir in the forend of the stock. The magazine is loaded by inverting the gun and shaking BBs into it from the reservoir.

BBs are poured into the reservoir as shown in the photo below.

Two 12 Gram CO2 cartridges are loaded base-to-base through the base of the buttstock. The buttplate is rotated up and the cartridges loaded.

Crosman gives a maximum Muzzle Velocity of up to 430 FPS. However – as with all CO2-powered airguns, that will depend very much on the rate of fire and ambient temperature.

The number of shots per fill will also depend on use. Crosman says that it should be 75-100 shots on full auto. Make that double for slower, semi-automatic fire.

There’s a blowback action that drives the cocking handle to reciprocate when firing. However, it’s not necessary to cock the gun using the handle. It’s really for “show” rather than “go”.

At a shooting weight of 4 Lb 7 Oz, the Crosman M1 Full Auto Air Rifle around one Pound lighter than the GI issue centerfire version. However the 35.5-Inch overall length matches that of the original.

With a MSRP of $139.99, this is not an expensive replica. There’s a plastic stock, clamshell construction and no protruding magazine.

Yet this new M1 captures the essence of the original and will satisfy many as a backyard plinker engaging feral soda cans and similar fun targets. There’s even windage and elevation capability built-in to the rear sight.

The official launch date is October 14, 2024. However some have already appeared at retail locations – primarily Walmart – and are being snapped-up fast, I hear.

Of course, as a selective-fire model, this gun really should be labeled as a Crosman M2 Full Auto Air Rifle. But on-one’s going to split hairs over that…
