In my experience the 22 caliber monster redesign pellet seems to do extremely well at higher then normal speeds for a Diabola style skirted round.
When you think speeds for pellets they typically fall between 830fps and 900fps or so i have found most pellets do well at these speeds.
Not the MRDs they for me anyway seem to do best between 965fps and 985fps which seems really fast for a pellet. When i first started tuning with these pellets, when they came out i struggled to find accuracy because i was treating them like i would a regular diabola pellet 830 850 860 890 900 etc etc. It wasn't untill i shot them from a soupped up maverick did i find the magic.
I was at the range dubbing around playing with some different ammo and liners. I had a tin of the MRDs and a tin of the 34 grain monster jsb pellets both 22 caliber. I filled my mag with the MRDs loaded them up and took some shots not expecting anything good as i knew they were coming out hot. 990fps to be Exact. Wow was i wrong they grouped, so i started to back them down a bit 985 980 970 till settling at 965fps were they went where ever i pointed. The excitement was overwhelming i felt like i had a secret lol, a secret to success. (Timeline was a few years ago for context now ever one is using them at these speeds)

I guess where im going with this is why? What makes them love higher speeds and be so darn stable in wind?

What are your thoughts?
Do you use these pellets?
At what speeds have you found success?

Can’t answer why but have recently discovered the exact same thing. Just bought a 22 barrel for my ghost and am waiting for the new (old) mrds to come out to see if it would beat my 25 barrel @ 100 yd bench. Tried some mrds that i had on hand and 960-965 was the winning number. I’ve gotta say it’s got to be the exact shape and balance that allows the speed?

I am very excoted for the new 28 grain MRDs and see if they can be pushed as fast or faster. They way they cut the wind is amazing. I am glad to hear your having luck with the ghost as im about to make my 30 a 22 for N50 benchrest and want to run the MRDs

I was very surprised when i first shot a group @50 with the old 25.4 Very first group went in 1/2 in and if i could have backed it up 2 would have been 3/8 outside to outside! Shot a 3/4” group @ 100 just a little while after. Never had an opportunity to try so fast before except when i bought a red wolf and it was spraying them all over so of course it went back

So the 34 g monsters are a similar design but i was not able to get same results. The zan 56 30 cal pellets also similar i had great success with thise at 100 at 856 fps from a 1:40 twist liner. Not fast but still a good result

Iol I feel like the .22 Ghost was made for the 25gr Mrds🤣. Seems to hate slugs and anything light without a big detune. My S510 gets em up to 770fps... Definitely not the sweet spot, but accurate enough for 50yards. To be clear the 33 grainers are called 'beasts' and the 25s are the 'monsters'😅 I've seen em (mrds) one hole up to 1000fps on YouTube. They are closer to a slug in shape I'm guessing that helps alot?! I bought 2 tins a few months back with my order for my future ghost purchase and now everyone's saying they may not be great 😔

Im not of fan of the 34g i could not find a barrel or speed they did well in.

Well that was the go to pellet in 22 cal for a couple years in 100 yd br Then I don’t know what happened but everybody started complaining about flyers and not just close flyers! But im starting to wonder more about the air bubble theory thats been passed around.

Next time I switch out to the .22 barrel in my Ghost, I made a note to test at those velocities...I know I def didnt' go that fast last time I was cking for optimal velocity...and will try the 177 at those higher velocities too ...

My stock Ghost has been loving the MRDs at 975fps. Will eventually try em 950 to 960 to see if I can get a few more shots per fill out of it but it's tough to mess with how good it shooting now! After paper shooting I plinked at 60yards with it....walk in the park!! The JTS 25gr look awfully similar and were grouping about as good as the MRDS on same settings, so that's good news😊. I do wonder though how the MRDs would shoot out of a more traditional twist rate barrel 1:16/1:17etc at speeds over 900fps!? If anyone has tried this....

Our Red Wolfs are 1 in 17.7 poly's and in 2018, 2019 were pretty amazing. I was even able to tag a 3" x 7" metal plate at 289 yds with regularity in that era. JSB changed something in the balance and now on my own 208 yd range, there are HUGE fliers a couple out of 10 plus overall, not as accurate. They still seem to group other than occasional fliers at 125, so still somewhat stable there. We found pushing them between 965 and 1000 fps was the best window when they were still good. My Ghost or DW seems to be best around 940 now. I have 1 in 17.7 and 1 in 30 poly's for them and neither seems really better... possibly need to try a bunch faster on the slow twist... RTI was promoting theirs best at 1015 when they came out with the slow twist poly.

How is the barrel interior regarding leading vs a JSB 18.13 pellet?
I have noticed more lead from shooting very fast (900fps plus) and more cleaning req In different guns but can't comment on mrd vs 18gr myself yet... I'm through 1.5 tins of mrds so still to soon. I'm happy with overall accuracy. Am gonna get em up to 1000fps for fun before I drop my ghosts reg to 150.

I tried JSB redesigned older pellets 5@ 865fps and 5 @900 fps max on my Delta Wolf. Shooting indoors at 10 meters.
Shot a .155"group and .173" group. Checked the barrel after 44 shots and thesee 10 HP shots and see leding more towards the last 8"-10" of my 17" barrel. Still waiting on the NEW JSB Redesigned Shallow and Deep pellets due about May 1st, maybe. I keep my JSB 18.13 pellets at 800fps or less.
