They (& other "match grade" wadcutters) are generally intended for use in dedicated 10 meter rifles at 600 fps or less. My FWB 600 spits them out at ~550 fps.
Doesn't necessarily mean they can't do well at higher speed, but I have no experience on which to draw... the FWB is the only rifle...
@FL22 Nice shooting! Much better than my first two standing cards back in September, before hatching the idea for this online match.
Keep 'em coming HAMsters, we still don't have enough to fill out the podium 🥇
Awesome! Was starting to worry there'd be no other participants in standing! At least there's one other seated entry 😀
Those pellets sure look the part, was not aware of them. Will have to give 'em a go from the 600.
40 grain have been known to constipate a rifle. A lot to push through.
Not a balanced valve expert but any stretch of the imagination... but it's always been my impression that with them, tuning is primarily done with the regulator.
Tried both positions with the Vet II in .177, Zan 13 grain slugs & Athlon Midas Tac. Went about as expected; a little better from seated & worse standing. Find short guns easier to deal with on the sticks, but miserable for offhand. Don't think the scope helped or hurt. Maybe helped a bit...
Started an offhand card tonight, but dropped the idea pretty quick. Battling a sinus infection & bronchitis. Neither is necessary for me to shoot poorly, can do that on my own... but they can take it from bad to worse!
Got a seated card completed, 290/300. Definitely satisfied with that...
I hear you John, offhand is a tough game. When cooking up this match, considered doing both seated and standing from sticks. Still hoping to one day approach competency without them, though.
Really enjoying the diopters again. Know we as a group overwhelmingly use scopes, and for good...
C'mon guys, jump in the water's fine! Don't let this thread turn into The Wolfmangreg Follies Chronicles.
Today's standing attempt, again with the FWB 600 / diopeter sights / RWS R10 8.2: 212/300
And... the inevitable step back to reality. Tired & maybe should have taken the night off from shooting but it was so nice out, couldn't waste the chance.
203/300, standing
Absolutely, I've been shooting two per bull as well. Still reasonably easy to score even if they overlap. Three or more gets tricky, often tearing. But it's up to the shooter, no rule saying you can't shoot more than two.
You really hit on it, prevents one bad shot from getting in your head for the whole card.
But when it isn't in the black (far too often for me standing)...
