I need a wooden dowel to bump out a stuck pellet from barrel lead. Barrel is a .22, but Lowes or Home Depot is not gonna have them listed in .22, .177 or .25. so, what size do I need to slide down the .22 cal barrel?

.1875 at Home Depot, you need a diameter smaller than the rifling.I need a wooden dowel to bump out a stuck pellet from barrel lead. Barrel is a .22, but Lowes or Home Depot is not gonna have them listed in .22, .177 or .25. so, what size do I need to slide down the .22 cal barrel?
Brass will not scratch steel carbon is more abrasive than brass.I bought 2 today. All they had was the pine dowels. Cheap things. Good thing.i.bought 2! The first one.broke.in half as I was inserting it in the barrel! Then broke again while taking it out. Second dowel was a complete.success. pellet tapped right out at 2nd drop. Think I am gonna invest in.a carbon rod, just in case. I don't even want to try a brass cleaning rod in my barrel. Not wanna risk.scratching.it, the thing is to accurate to risk that.
For some reason I was under the impression that even using a brass rod in the softer steel air gun barrels was a good way to mar and scuff them up. Well, wouldn't be the first time the old brain dyslexia kicked in and got me. Thanks for that Solo. I will go with the brass.Brass will not scratch steel carbon is more abrasive than brass.
Take a pellet with you and find a dowel of corresponding size.I need a wooden dowel to bump out a stuck pellet from barrel lead. Barrel is a .22, but Lowes or Home Depot is not gonna have them listed in .22, .177 or .25. so, what size do I need to slide down the .22 cal barrel?
The smallest dowels both Home Depot.and Lowes sell is it. The next size up, which I could have gotten made.of Oak, was just a hair larger than the 25 caliber jsb pellet I had in my pocket. Not even counting for the.lands.and grooves inside the bore. So, a brass 22 caliber rod.is in.my immediate future, as soon as I.am able to.drive, or feel up to going out with the wife.Take a pellet with you and find a dowel of corresponding size.
Another method that worked for me. Find a metal rod that’s small enough for you to apply shrink wrap and still be small enough to go down the barrel. You can find small diameter rods and heat shrink in rolls at almost any hardware store. The smallest dowels both Home Depot.and Lowes sell is it. I don’t have any .177 guns but I do have a .177 Dewey covered with shrink wrap to use on my .22 and .25 barrels.I have used a traditional.177 (minus patch holder) cleaning rod and carefully thread through barrel to push out pellet.
Good man! I have a few still in use myself. Thanks for that info. It never crossed my mind. I will keep it wiped clean!
