Benchrest Motorized Front/Rear Rests Legal In 100yd Bench Rest?

I’m just curious if motorized front or rear rests are legal in any of the 75yd or longer benchrest events? I made my self a micro-adjustable rest and I don’t like that I have to move my hand to adjust the pan. I figured I might build a joystick micro-adjustable rest.

I’m trying to find my way. I know I need something other than a plastic folding table. I keep saying I’m going to build a sturdy table. I’ve tried a lead sled 3, tripod, bipod and squeeze bag, bipod and mechanical rear rest. I like the mechanical rear rest, but the pan adjustment is getting in the way. Basically, just experimenting.

All those rests can be used to shoot accurately BUT they are setting on a wobbly base. Start there and I think you will see your accuracy increase.

I built this out of scrap 2” x 4”s and composite deck top. It’s very sturdy.

My wife and I have been shooting our pumpkins over the last two days. My wife doesn’t usually shoot, but she’s had a blast. We were talking today about the fact that we need to build a double shooting table. You’ve done a nice job.

BTW, N50 allows any rest so if you go down the motorized rest road you are good in N50.

I built a micro-adjustable rear rest for shooting off the table. The original idea was to use 3d printed parts and then machine it out of aluminum. But, procrastination got in the way and I’ve been using the 3d printed version for months. But at one point I left it outside on the covered patio overnight. It was quite comical, I went to shoot the next morning and discovered mud dauber wasps had taken hold in all of the recessed screw holes. They didn’t appreciate mope removing their mud and rebuilt them. I ended up leaving it outside on the table. The 100f temps and 98% humidity took a toll on the so called stainless steel bearings. I finally got around to designing and making an aluminum electric joystick controlled precision rest. This one is more substantial and is a front rest. It’s functional, but not completely finised yet. I’ll, post photos of it when it’s complete. But, it works. It allows me to use a common benchrest position where I fold my left arm across my chest and under the butt stock. I am able to pan and tilt the rifle with my left hand without changing my shooting grip on the rifle. This photo is of the original rear rest.

I did some testing today. It’s very stable. I underestimated how much torque would be needed for the vertical lift. I’ve got a new motor coming tomorrow and then I need to machine the base and maybe polish it and if all goes good show some photos.

They are wonderful if you're lucky enough to be shooting with a good spotter!

The new motor for elevation works great. This has changed my whole style of shooting. Minimal contact with the rifle. Also learned that resting on the bottle is rough on the accuracy. I knew that, but tried it anyway. Very close to being done. Lowered the trigger pull back down to around 9 ozs.

It’s not done yet, but it’s very close and seems to work well so far. I’ve got to clean up the wires, round the edges on the joystick enclosure and mount it to a base. It’s very stable and has a resolution of better than .oo3mm.

Yes, I was thinking the other day that I’m putting too much money and effort into this pastime. Then I started thinking that the Sonoran might look better in a chassis.
