Marauder Why no 'single shot tray' for the Gen 3?

As I have become personally interested in the Marauder Gen 3, I find myself thinking more in detail about the rifle..., thus the questions I have.

First question is why doesn't Benjamin provide a simple, single shot tray with the Marauder Gen 3, or at least offer one as an accessory? Heck, even the Barra 250z comes with a high quality aluminum anodized single shot tray!

Secondly, I can't believe one of the various 3D printer outfits hasn't built a single shot tray for the Gen 3 yet??? I don't mean one of those tip out/in single 'loaders', but a simple tray.

If I buy the Gen 3 I will only use it for bench shooting as it's too heavy for me as a field rifle. Since I will only use it on the bench I would prefer to single load and not use the mags. Plus, if I don't use the mags I can get my optic closer to the bore line.

Any of you other Gen 3 owners, or prospective buyers interested in a single shot tray?

I don't know, I went to their site and ask if they had mags and a single shot tray. They said they had someone testing them now and if everything goes good then they will go ahead with them. They made it sound like they are close to selling them. They said they would send me a email when ready.

I'm stoked to hear that the aftermarket is kicking in! This gun has a wide magazine slot, so a flat single shot design can work, but 9 times out of 10 in a gun desgned to take a magazine I prefer flip outs. I don't use them much though, just for testing. I have been checking CARM and Maple every week, so this is very good news!

Bill, that looks like it's flat on the top and not sloped inward...., am I seeing that correct? I like single shot trays to be flat on the top not sloped.

Also, the depth of the slot should only be about 1/3 the diameter of the pellet. That way if the pellet falls into the slot backwards (it happens) the pellet can more easily be flipped over if the slot is not too deep.

Not for me guys. I won't use those flip-out style single loaders because I use wet-lube pellets. Those flip-out single loaders use an o-ring to hold the pellet in place and the o-ring wipes the lube off the pellet.

I've had a single shot air rifle (Falcon FN19) for more than 30yrs so I became very accustom to loading a port that functions like a tray.

Yes, I made it flat. In, all honesty, I just wanted to see how quickly I could measure and design one. The only thing that I really ensured was that the pellet aligned with the throat and that it snapped into place like the magazine does. It took me about 20 minutes plus print time. The depth could be changed in a couple of minutes. If you end up buying a Marauder Gen 3 and you don’t find a suitable tray, I will send you one.
I think the concept of the swinging pellet loader is cool and I’m sure I could produce one relatively quickly. But, I’m not convinced that a 3d printed swinging pellet loader isn’t introducing some of the same issues that shooters are trying to avoid by not using a magazine - pellet deformation.

Unless the designer is doing a lot of printing and testing, 3d printing lacks the one thing that CNC machining has: engineering accuracy. If I design a 1” cube that has .218” hole in the center and machine it from aluminum on my CNC machine, it will measure 1” and the hole will be a perfect circle with a diameter of .218”. The accuracy will be within .001” or better. If I take that same design and print it on one of my 3d printers, I can guarantee that it will not be 1” or have a .218” hole. There’s no guarantee that the hole will be a circle or an oval. The 3d printers themselves are CNC machines and capable of extreme accuracy. But, they’re melting and extruding thermal plastics. The plastics shrink and expand with cooling etc.. The shrinkage is even affected by the chosen color. I’m not saying that you can’t 3d print something with accuracy. You can, but it takes a little more work.

That's really interesting to me as I have zero knowledge about 3D printing. I do have some machining skills as I worked for four years when I was in my teens machining aluminum, plastic injection molds on an Onsrud mill.

Appreciate the offer of the single shot tray if I buy the Gen 3.

I wish Benjamin would offer a nice anodized aluminum tray as an option part for the Gen 3. The one supplied with the Barra 250z is excellent! I never use the mags when I shoot the 250z. I use the single shot tray even while hunting rock chucks.

I used the Barra tray several times before they confiscated my 250z LOL. I also used the tray that came with my Alpha. I’ve shot single shot quite a bit with the Marauder, Sonoran and the Panthera. But, none of them have a tray and so I just do it the old fashioned way. I really should make some loaders for all of them. I don’t usually use my CNC machine to shape aluminum. I do machine aluminum with it, but usually it’s just cut outs and marking. I’m not sure how smooth I could get the pellet channel if I tried aluminum. I’m also not sure an aluminum tray would lock in place on the Marauder.
