I'm thinking about getting a new HW50, and a HW97. The 50 will be in .177, and the 97 in either .20 or .22. Not really interested in discussing the merits of either caliber I only included it for tuning purposes. AoA offers a super tune as an upgrade, and also the super tune with the vortek kit as well. I'm looking for smooth as opposed to power. I guess the question boils down to will the kit make it any smoother than the super tune? I don't even know for sure whether anyone here has had experience with either, or both. Thanks for the consideration.

As an afterthought, I suppose that the added velocity of the vortek kit could be offset by shooting a heavier pellet to smooth things out.

Hey @Scriv I just picked up a .177 HW50S last week and zero tune needed imo, Very smooth outta the box, just a sliiiight bit of twang at the end of the shot cycle. I have only shot it a few times sadly so far but its far more gentle than my .177 TX200, (which you also own for comparison). My TX is getting a full TBT kit this month hopefully once my work life slows down🤞, its gotten down right harsh after 2 years of moderate use.
My brother installed a full Vortek kit in his Diana 350 and did not gain any speed really, but it did tame it (smoother shot cycle vs my dad's untuned 350) a little.
Will I even slap a tune kit in my HW50? Probably! But as shipped she's a sweet shooting gun, and hopefully wont need to open it up for a while. Solid choice!

Thanks, that helps. Smoother than my TX would make me very happy. I appreciate the input.

Well, in the interest of not fussing about, I ordered the HW50 75th anniversary model, and a HW97K with a walnut thumbhole stock in .20 cal. Both rifles will arrive having been super tuned, and had the vortek kit installed.
Hey @Scriv let's us know if it smokes a bit(diesel) initially?! Mine does alittle from the factory lubricant still inside, rite of passage and all that...ill shoot it till it stops smoking lol. Curious if your tuned guns will!? Only down side i guess of getting it done before is you wont know the before and after changes. When I get mine chronoed ill post up all the goods 👍

I'd be interested in the chrono details. I'd be surprised if the gun doesn't diesel a bit when I get it. I'm holding my cards a bit close yet on something else that I opted for in an attempt to get you about as excited as I am. I suppose it will be next week until the work is done, and the rifles get shipped.
