Bore Shot- What Do You See?

You know, I had another surprise too. The bore that I thought would look the worst, looked awesome. My mrod barrel was so bad when I first looked through it with my naked eye that I figured to throw it out. I literally polished the hell out of it with an electric drill forward and backwards for over an hour. This was stuff that you just should not do. Afterward, I put it on the gun and shot it, and there it stayed. Super accurate pellet shooter. I figured that it would still look really rough, but it looked great. Maybe if I bore polish my 250z barrel at some point I will give that spot a little more attention, maybe not. I can't add to what's lost, and I don't want to end up with a loose spot either, and I never felt that spot pushing a slug through either. There is an order of business for working on these things and if they shoot well that's where you stop. The thing that I found really useful for the borescope was looking at transfer ports, and the breech oring. I have to pat myself on the back too, my bores, transferports and orings look great! It's good to know. I don't understand how my TJ's barrel on my Paradigm can look so damn good and yet after 30 rounds of hybrids I have to pull a patch. I saw nothing in there. That ammo is the dirtiest in the business, I wish I could find something else that shot as good.

EDIT: And I wanted to add, that none of my bores had any lead deposits or build ups. I shoot JSB and ZAN, mostly, except for the hybrids in the Paradigm and not coincidentally that's the only barrel that I have to clean all the time. I thought that my Gauntlet might be leaded up by now because that has had well over 20k shots through it, but nope, looks good! I switched off from using CPD's years ago and I almost have never cleaned the barrel since. I pull a patch every couple of tins, just to do it.

The bore scope is definitely a useful tool and the technology we get for such a low price is incredible. I still remember inspecting bores with a fiber optic light and nothing else. This is a quantum leap forward. For me it might be better as a diagnostic tool, rather than a prognostic tool. Kind of the old “If it ain’t broke , don’t fix it” scenario lol. @Solo1 has me wondering if maybe I’ve been cleaning the Sonoran too often.

After reading this thread in its entirety....I actually think I won't be getting a boroscope .
My barrel cleaning regimine: only when accuracy degrades consistently, or at the end of the shooting season (December ish) regardless of accuracy all guns get a good cleaning.
Shot a ton of different slugs through my S510 somewhat recently (NSA,Patriots, H&N, Rifle, etc) and then before putting it away I shot a full mag of 18.13 pellets....got my best group of the day with em I wholeheartedly DONT believe in barrel cleaning when switching between ammo brand/type.

If you don’t mind and you remember, take a snap of a spot that you think is excessive build up. It would be interesting to see.

Ive cleaned and polished since then and the lead is not building up like it did. After all that was done i shot a hp ft match and took high score shooting aea 25 gr to 52 fpe. Was the first to get high score with a 22!

I ve lost count, but I’ve put 250+ pellets and slugs through the Sub-MOA barrel. It has some leading, but doesn’t seem extreme. There seems to be some on the edges of the lands. I removed the barrel and pushed two slugs through it. One slug that I swaged and one AEA 52.2 gr slug. Both slugs felt tighter for the first 9” or so of the barrel and seemed to catch a few times.

Well now you know what area you need to work on. Polish that rough area so the projectile isn’t loosing or even picking up lead there so its not unbalancing the projectile.

I decided today, that maybe one polish wasn’t enough. I cleaned the barrel, polished it with JB and Flitz. Then took a look at the barrel and was surprised to see some leading still there. I removed the lead and lightly polished it again. Looked good. Then I shot enough groups at 101yds that I had to refill the 700cc bottle twice. For the most part I had some vertical stringing, I’m sure that’s me and not the rifle.

I shot a few groups with AEA 52.2gr slugs and AEA 45gr pellets. The slugs were a little loose, but the last pellet group was excellent. I was shooting the pellets at 875fps and turned the power down one click. My rifle seems to like 850 fps.

Great pellet group. I would suggest you try a lower reg setting and higher hammer setting with the slugs you might have so much pressure coming out behind the slug to destabilize it as its leaving the barrel but thats just a guess.

I think you’re probably right. I had it at approx 158 bar and raised it and retuned the hammer for a higher velocity. But, today’s the first time I’ve retried the AEA slugs and it looks like they’ve dropped 20fps. I’ll drop it back down and see what happens.

If you change things up for slugs, just remember exactly where you are now because that group with the 45gr pellets is really good. Wouldn't be a bad spot to be stuck at for a while.

I’ll do that. These pellets are another rabbit hole lol. Supposedly these are the “no good, new design”.

Bill this is why i suggest lower reg pressure I don’t think they changed the reg when they modified the gun and i know the ghost comes with the lower bar reg so im assuming the sonoran comes with the lower bar reg also. This is from huma air for the sniper and a few others

Ok thanks. If you remember, you asked me to turn the reg way down and work up in 5 bar increments. When I did that my best pellet groups were at approximately 158 bar and they were at 75yds. I’ve attached that group. I’m going to just tune it for pellets and if it shoots slugs it’ll be a bonus. The driving force is the swaging press sitting there with enough lead for 10,000 plus slugs lol.

Can I ask how you know the Ghost comes with the lower of the 3 regs? I would doubt that myself as they suggest not setting the reg pressure at the ceiling but instead to step up to the next higher set reg. I would think any HP ghost in .22 or bigger uses the second or 3rd reg (most come set between 145-165B)?
I got a reg kit or two for my ghost and gave Huma the Ghosts serial # but I never asked which reg it has.....haven't needed the kit yet.

I have no idea what reg is in my Ghost. But, the regulator is set to 130 bar and it is putting pellet on pellet at 30yd, 75yds and 100yds. I couldn’t be happier with it and I’m almost afraid to pick it up, in case something changes.

Good to hear, how's its first few shots outta the gate after sitting for a week or so? My first group is always spread out....other than that fantastic. If I have a random pest shot to take its the S510 all the time now
Definitely stick with pellets in the Sonoran...shes a lazer! Buy a .30cal dedicated slug gun later

Dan it says that the standard for the ghost is to 150.
I take that to mean that is whate they send brk i could be wrong but if they didn’t mean that i think they would say low?
