Whether you think it needs it or not.
If you are like me and bought this gun over 5 years ago and have never felt the need to service it, here is your wake up call.
I noticed a very slow leak starting that wasn't really effecting use, but I have never serviced the gun, and I often handpump fill it, so I was curious to take it apart. That's the interesting part of this story, the threads on the air tube really did not want to unthread. I don't know what they used when they assembled it but it became a white sticky powder that had more the properties of loctite than silicone. Luckily I have a big bench vise and strap wrenches and a 2' long steel rod to put through the fill port, because it took all of that to get it off the tube. I am glad that I didn't wait any longer.
It was, in fact, the oring in the fill port that had started to fail that seems to have been the problem. I changed every oring I saw anyway. The only oring I didn't change was a very tiny one on the valve. I don't have anything that small. I didn't know they made orings that small.
The inside of the gun did look good though. It's no wonder this gun loves slugs, the barrel is really good. The rifling and the crown look just about perfect. The best part of all of this is that after I put everything back together and aired up, the zero had not changed. I opened my door to shoot at my 95y spinner, and the first shot missed but was real close, tried again, bingo! It was me, not the gun. I was using 12.5gr NSA slugs. This gun loves them, and it doesn't need a bore scrubbing all the time either.
The plastic on this gun, and how it is made and machined, puts the aluminum receiver on the Flashpup version of this gun, to shame. I could not believe how rough the internals were on the Flashpup, though it was accurate too. I think they did a better job with the Vectis.
