Gas Ram Vortex Ram Resealing..My Observations

As far as I know, Hatsan Vortex gas springs are the only ones that are rebuildable.

I have found the job of resealing leaky Vortex rams to be not too difficult.

*****MAKE SURE THE RAM IS COMPLETELY DE-PRESSURIZED FIRST*****

Once the rifle is disassembled,clamp the ram body in a vise. It will require some significant pressure on the vise,
Apply heat to soften the thread locking compound and remove the brass gland.
Use a good open end wrench---17mm or 18mm (can't remember which) it DOES require some oomph..
Let things cool down !!
Removing the old O-rings is the most difficult part, I use an O-ring pick... As they are typically brittle, they come out in pieces.
Make sure everything is clean!!!
New 90 durometer O-rings go in with a little fiddling,add 4 or 5 drops of silicone oil, some Loctite and reassembly
is straight forward.
If the rifle has the port for pre-charging the cylinder, so much the batter, as the gun can be reassembles without a spring compressor..
Make sure that the bleed screw is closed TIGHT...
If no bleed screw, take care to NOT OVER-PRESSURIZE THE RAM........
Assemble, air it up and done....
Of course, if your ram has no bleed screw, you gotta air it up first and reassemble using a spring compressor.
Go shooting!!!

I figured on a drop or 2 of lucus ps seal stop leak ...

2 hatsan rams and both leaked down . Lucky there the refill / tune with probe and pump ones .. still a lot of guys have then just fail out of the blue .. long run just convert to spring . Lol

I had converted several to Crosman NP gas springs, but many of the Hatsans have an end block that is not easily replaced. I made replacement bases using Delrin for Mod. 95 Vortex gas spring conversions to Crosman or coil, but now that I know how to replace the O-rings, it is a no-brainer...

have found that soaking the rod gland in acetone for about 3 hours swells the O-rings and makes the easy to remove!
