There’s a new PCP air rifle at Airguns of Arizona. It’s the BRK Saguaro. (BRK Saguaro Performance, to give its’ full title).
The Saguaro is a large, tree-like cactus that’s native to the Sonoran desert. Everyone who has shot at Extreme Benchrest has seen them, but fewer know it’s official Latin name of Carnegiea Gigantea.
Anyhow, this new air rifle is named the “BRK Saguaro”, not the “BRK Carnegiea Gigantea”. Phew!
The Saguaro is a development of the well-known, classic BRK Sniper XR. Hard Air Magazine reviewed this gun in its “Magnum” form back in 2020 and liked it a lot. It easily earned a HAM Gold Award for its performance on test.
Compared to the “base” Sniper XR, the new Saguaro sells for just $96 more. But it offers a huge amount of additional value.
Most obviously we see the Saguaro’s custom OD Green Cerakote finish on stock and barrel shroud. The combination of this nearly indestructible ballistic nylon stock, complete with adjustable butt and cheekpiece, plus 17-Inch barrel, positions the Saguaro as an ideal hunting tool.
Performance-wise, the Saguaro makes a substantial increase on that of the base Sniper XR. In .22 caliber, the Saguaro delivers up to 50 Ft/Lbs of Muzzle Energy. That’s 20 Ft/Lbs (67%) more than that of the base model.
In .25 caliber, the increase is an additional 17 Ft/Lbs, making a maximum of 57 Ft/Lbs.
These are impressive figures and they are the result of the unseen, internal improvements that the AoA specialists have made to the Sniper XR platform.
I spoke to AoA’s Lauren Parsons about the Saguaro as she has shot the new model extensively. “This is a re-take on an old classic”, she explained. “It’s been super tuned internally. Effectively all the hard work has been done for you. All you need to do is to take it out and shoot.”
Lauren also reminded me that the BRK Sniper platform has some serious capability. Claudio Flores won Extreme Benchrest in 2018 using a Sniper and some of the tweaks incorporated into that gun are also present in the Saguaro, she says.
Lauren told me that she has found the new BRK Saguaro to shoot very well with JSB Monster redesigned pellets and lighter slugs such as the JSB Knock-Out.
The BRK Saguaro is in stock at Airguns of Arizona now. The price is $1,695.99.
