The Last Air Bender Moderator. Well, that’s an unusual name for a product!
In fact, it’s the first airgun-only silencer to be designed and produced by Rogue Air Modz. It’s in volume production and you can buy it from stock today at the well-known Michigan airgun dealer High Pressure Pneumatics.
Of course, most PCP air rifles sold today have threaded muzzles to accommodate a silencer for backyard-friendly shooting where legal. This has generated a steady demand for airgun-only silencers to match those 1/2-Inch x 20 UNF threads.
The Last Air Bender is a very recent entrant into this market. It has been designed by Dan, a genuine airgun enthusiast – he goes by the name of NortheastBeast in the Hard Air Magazine Community, for example. And it’s made in the USA!
Below, the Last Air Bender attached to a JTS Airacuda Max.
So this silencer incorporates his specifications and thinking. It’s based on his personal experience and is intended for backyard-friendly shooting and undisturbed pest control.
Internally, there’s a six-stage baffle stack that is optimized to handle high-pressure air efficiently, dissipating energy at every stage and reducing the report on firing.
That proprietary internal architecture is designed to rapidly strip and separate turbulent muzzle blast. By forcing the escaping air through those six distinct expansion stages, a significant reduction the acoustic signature is achieved.
“This results in a cleaner, quieter, and more pleasant shooting experience, allowing you to focus entirely on your target,” explained Tom Simmon, the owner of High Pressure Pneumatics.
“Our customers have been very impressed with the product.” Tom continued. “It really does work well with a wide variety of different airguns and calibers.”
All internal components are CNC-machined to ensure perfect alignment with the bore. This minimizes the risk of baffle strikes and ensures the projectile’s flight path remains consistent and accurate.
The 36mm (1.4-Inch) outer diameter and 6 7/8 Inch overall length provides substantial internal volume for maximum sound dampening.
It also allows the one model to be suitable for all calibers from .177 to .25 cal. That’s a wider-than-usual range than you mostly find from most other silencers. A dedicated .30 caliber version is under development.
Rogue Air explains that the Last Air Bender moderator is machined from high-strength aircraft-grade aluminum. This material was chosen to offer an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio.
It is built to withstand rigorous use while remaining lightweight enough to maintain the balance and handling characteristics of your air rifle. Plus, it was designed to look good! Rogue Air describes it as having a sleek tactical profile aesthetic that complements modern air rifle platforms.
At $200, the Last Air Bender is not a low cost product. It certainly does not look cheap, with it’s restrained, stylish branding. In fact, I’m going to say that it is beautifully machined and the surface finish and appearance are exceptional!
That external finish is complemented by a significant perceived reduction in report with a wide variety of air rifles.
The sample reviewed by HAM seemed to be a little loose when screwing onto the male threads of several – but not all – the airguns we tried. However in all cases, it snugged-down tightly into position against the barrel shroud ends.
Note that this is definitely not a small silencer – or moderator, whatever you like to call it. Nor – at 8.8 Oz – is it the lightest out there. But the Last Air Bender is definitely a high-quality product that does what it claims and looks great doing it!
