We will have our monthly field target match on August 5, 2023.
Will there be aliens? Will there be Sasquatch? Will there be angry beavers?
YES!
The sight-in range will open at 8:00am and the match will start at 9:00.
$15 admission
After the match we plan to meet at a local spot for lunch.
We hope to see you then- let us know you plan to come in the comments section!

Can spectators go, or do you have to participate? I would like to see it but I'm no where near the level you guys are.

Sure! You can come watch, ask questions and learn! But for real- you are welcome to shoot and just have fun as well.
My first match I only hit 7 targets... but was hooked.

Please come and just watch if you would like, we would love to have you there!

I'm going to try to make it, never been to one before. Since you guys are target shooters, I have a question. I'm looking to go to a ffp scope but torn between 4-16x50 or 6-24x50. If I decided to shoot field target in the future which one would be better?

Yes come!
I assume you are talking Hunter class field target, not Open or WFTF where higher magnification is allowed. For hunter class, 16x is the max setting that can be used during the match. But many believe a scope capable of higher than 16x is preferable because the quality of optics is better- even though you will not use higher than 16x.

FFP for hunter class is not a necessity, but is a nice feature if you have it. I shot years with a second FP scope and did just fine.

What is important is to have a scope that ranges well with a side parallax. A wheel will be necessary to range well and provide a place to put your range markings. Most Hunter shooters use a Mil reticle. I have multiple how-to videos that might help!

@DeadEyeNC videos are a great resource!

Agree that the 6-24 would be preferable, provided it has a factory marking for 16x. If it doesn't, by rule you have to set it at the next lowest marked magnification.

Another thing to consider about FFP scopes is the reticle visibility at 16x. I bought an Athlon Midas Tac with the intention of using it for FT, but at 16x the non-illuminated reticle was borderline too fine for my eyes. Struggled when targets were in dense shade or other low light conditions, & suspect it would've caused eye strain (fatigue?) over a typical 60-shot course.

Really impressed with it otherwise, so sold it & replaced with another Athlon- this time a Heras SFP with illuminated reticle. Best I can tell the reticle subtensions are not different from the Midas Tac, but turning the illumination on makes it much easier to see the hash marks against a dark or poorly lit kill zone. Best of both worlds- fine reticle for precision aiming, & illumination to keep it from getting lost when lighting isn't ideal. Food for thought.

Lol the aliens and sasquatch thing got me going

Im 66 and have to wear glasses now but i can use my athlon argos gen 2. 6-24 ffp moa with them or without and the illumination is helpful at times but don’t need it often. Works great for me i think its a good scope for the money and ft

I watched all of your videos, they were great. I realized that I am no where near ready to shoot yet, I don't even own a .177 except my HW40. I still want to come check it out, if I don't have to work that day. I think I am going to go with the 6x24 scope after watching your review.
