...this time, a late '60s HW50 which, for a guy that loves old springers and doesn't have a 50, is a very cool stroke of luck.
The rifle came into to a LGS along with a number of firearms all needing some attention, from what I gathered. This one has a homemade peep sight that you can see in the pic. Thankfully, the factory sight didn't get tossed sometime between the '60s and now. How often can you say that!
You can see the Perfect rather than Rekord trigger, and this will be my first experience with one. No buttpad on this version, sadly.
The toe is chipped, the stock and the blueing are "scruffy", some of the screws are a little buggered up (nothing bad), etc. But it's all there and should work fine.
I do wonder if the barrel (.177) has been cut, as it kinda seems to be slightly short? and it looks like someone has touched up the crown, likely with a brass ball and some compound. Its nice and even though.
I need to find out if the piston seal is leather (I assume so) but there's no spring noises or rubbing when i nearly cock it.. I'll give it a few test shots as soon as I can. Well, after I give the breech seal a boost - it definitely needs it.
So, Happy New Gun Day to me!
