I spent some time testing today using my RAW .30 HM 1000X LRT @100Y. I was testing JSB 44, FX 44 and AEA 45 pellets with and without lube. I was also testing an Impulse Air moderator. It’s an interesting design that allows you to remove or add sections to increase or decrease the OAL. This in turn increases or decreases the overall report of the rifle but more importantly it changes the weight which in turn changes the barrel harmonics. It made a noticeable affect on the accuracy and each time I removed a section the POI significantly moved. It’s very effective and worthy of testing if you are so inclined? I also tested a Donny FL Sumo, Ronin and Tanto. However, after significant testing my particular HM 1000X LRT had the best accuracy with a Donny FL Tanto.

I shot my last set of targets shooting just one bull at a time, then indexing to the next one, shooting it and so on until I had been around the targets 5 times, ending up with 5 individual shots in each bull. This is more in line with shooting a match, one bull at a time, instead of just staying in one place and shooting groups. Since a card consists of 25 bulls and the targets I shot totaled 30 bulls so I omitted scoring my lowest bull score.

Winds were constant 7-9 and constantly switching. It was a challenging day but I am gradually getting the hang of it. I’m certainly no expert 100Y shooter but merely sharing my experience. It’s in preparation for the upcoming PAC and hopefully I won’t finish dead last?

Nice shooting! You said that you ended up with the Tanto but you didn't say the results of your lubing trial, how did that go?
Hi Carl, None of the lubes that I tried could best straight from the tin AEA's. I did have some success with Beeswax on the JSB pellets but the JSB seem to not perform as well as the AEA's do especially in the wind. I don't have a crono that measures BC but I have a hunch that the BC on the AEAs may be superior to the JSBs?

Thanks for the reply! I have been checking my B.C.'s lately just by calculation using Strelok, It works very well if you have a nice calm day. I just keep changing the number in the program until it matches what I'm seeing at the target. I usually do it between 53y and 125y, but sometimes push it further.

OK. It’s been a while since you posted about the HM100x. I want all of the gory details. Which slugs work best for you? Have you “tuned” your rifle since purchasing it? Have you been to 100yds? Details please!!

I’m not a slug shooter so no, I don’t have any data. I shot one of my RAW .30’s at PAC. I missed getting into the finals by 2 points but that was my fault for making some bad wind calls. As far as tuning it’s very close to the factory tune. I’m shooting AEA 50’s in one of mine and AEA 45’s are more accurate in the other one. The 50s have a slightly better BC and wind advantage at 100Y.

Ah… I’m looking at getting one to shoot hogs with but its a decent chunk of money to toss so, i am hoping to get a little bit of reassurance on the slug thing before i leap!
Ill probably just get one anyway because I’ve already talked myself into it but having more positive “ammunition” to feed the wife can’t hurt either!!

If that was your first big match —- congrats you did well! The wind at pac is usually not your friend! Lol

Thanks @Solo1 . I shot PAC two years ago for the first time and qualified with a Ghost .30 but finished mid pack. This was only my second big 100Y match. My goal this year was to qualify for the final again but it wasn’t meant to be. I can’t blame the wind because it was the mildest conditions that we have seen in Ohio for a very long . But per usual the wind switches a LOT here and it’s those switches that eat your lunch. I just made some bad calls.
