Hi all

"Rescued" this one about a month ago, chrony says it just gets to 8 fpe (725 fps) with a Geco 7 grain, less with a Hobby, and a very consistent 627 to 630 with 8.3gr RWS Superdome pellets, for roughly 7.5 fpe. FYI - nice new breech seal is doing a good job.

I know that the earlier guns are a different design than the ones from the last few decades, but I don't know what one "should" produce when it's running well.

Can anyone provide good info?

Thanks all!

Me too, but I'd still like to know if it's in good shape or needs a little TLC. I'll know better in a couple of weeks.

Vs newer maybe slow but if older leather seal i kinda think it's ok . Just me guessing I'd think it's running ballpark .

Being that a earlier 50 any true real data maybe tough to find on fps stuff.

From the little I have found, my numbers do seem to be OK. I also looked it up in the Airgun Blue Book last night and they listed it as 700 fps.

My piston would make comedic groaning noises if you slow cocked it. Even after a few drops of neatsfoot oil. I'm hoping that it isn't glazed from shooting without basic maintenance. The rifle seemed to have been ignored for a long time when I bought it....

....and I hope the fresh oil doesn't slow it down either!

My newer r9 got the cocking groan .. most always with a arh fitted seal .. I see others joke on there hws doing it as well . I don't see it as a issue at all. just a thing ...🤤

My .22 HW50 tuned by John in PA is right at 12ftlbs with a 14.66 gr pellet and dead nuts accurate. It also had 5 in of barrel chopped and threaded 1/2-20 by John. Top gun in pic.
