I’ve started weight‑sorting a new 450‑count batch of Molly’s Lead Shed 160gr swaged .308 slugs for my .308 Texan ahead of coyote season. After weighing the first 91 slugs, the tolerance consistency is far tighter than what you normally see in hand‑swaged big‑bore ammo. The average weight of the first 91 slugs is 160.3 grains, with 74 of them landing exactly at 160.0gr. For a swaged batch, this level of uniformity is exceptional and has a direct impact on shooter performance — tighter velocity spread, flatter vertical POI, and more predictable accuracy at 80–120 yards. Below are the measured results so far.

SHOOTER‑IMPACT SECTION
For a high‑power airgun like the .308 Texan, slug consistency isn’t just a detail — it directly affects real‑world performance. When weight variation is low, velocity variation stays low. That means:
Less vertical stringing at long range
More predictable point‑of‑impact from shot to shot
Tighter groups at 80–120 yards
More reliable terminal performance on coyotes
At hunting distances, especially past 80 yards, even a 30–40 fps velocity swing can move your POI by an inch or more. With this batch, most slugs fall into a 160.0–160.3gr cluster, which keeps velocity extremely stable and makes the Texan behave like a tuned rifle instead of a variable airgun. This is exactly what you want when you’re taking shots from 20 yards out to 110–120 yards.
TOLERANCE EXPLANATION
Swaged slugs already tend to be more consistent than cast, but this batch is unusually tight. Out of 91 slugs:
81 are within a 0.3gr window
Only 7 slugs drift into the 160.5–160.6 range
Only one slug sits at 161.2gr
For a hand‑swaged batch, this is outstanding. Most small‑batch makers show more drift, more outliers, and more spread. Tight tolerances mean the slugs have:
consistent bearing surface
consistent drag
consistent barrel friction
consistent BC
All of that adds up to repeatable accuracy, especially at the longer ranges where the Texan really stretches its legs.
Based on the first 91 slugs, this batch from Molly’s Lead Shed is shaping up to be one of the most consistent sets of hunting ammo I’ve ever measured. If the remaining 350+ slugs follow the same pattern, this will be a near‑ideal load for coyote season — predictable, stable, and accurate across the full 20–120 yard range. I’ll continue weighing the rest and update the results, but so far the numbers speak for themselves: this is a very tight batch, and it should translate directly into better field performance from the .308 Texan.
