I’m big into low power as well l. I have a Thomas for WFTF and a couple Pre Air Force RAWs for HFT. For the high powered serious benchrest, slugs are superior and need to be incorporated into competition as such due to their massively growing popularity.
In my opinion, the serious air gunners who have been at these shoots for years have naturally progressed to using more slugs. More so than rimfire guys getting into airgun competitions.
So you don’t have a airgun that shoots slugs? The experience is a lot different than a firearm and has major advantages for long range pesting. I have to have an airgun that shoots slugs at this point.
I wouldn’t, but you are insinuating slug guns have too much power to compete in benchrest. Some of the pellet guns used at EBR and RMAC make just as much if not more.
I don’t think they have a choice, but to add slug classes. Every content creator I watch primarily uses them and they are rapidly growing in popularity with average Joe shooters. All the long range hunters are using them now. It’s really hard to want to shoot a pellet nowadays unless it’s field...
.30 cal 66 grains pellets at high speeds shoot just as good as slugs and they aren’t considered to be in a different class. I hate when people bracket firearms with airguns. Airguns can just perform just as good as rimfire now and that’s it. Has nothing to do with “roots”.
The guys shooting .30 cal 66 grain AEA pellets are making crazy power and shoot well out to 200 yards. Slugs should just be allowed, and all the guys shooting high powered FX’s, Epics, Skouts, and RTI’s at my club have all had an easy time tuning them for slugs. In fact hardly anyone at my clubs...
The accuracy has been incredible for me and tuning has been very easy. I have old posts on here about having trouble tuning a BRK Ghost with .25 cal pellets. Ever since I’ve moved to heavy slugs tuning has become a piece of cake in my experience. Just gotta have a gun that can push them fast.
I’ve had that experience with light slugs, but with heavy slugs it has been very easy for me. Anything 35 grains and up shoots great out of my Epic and Mora. Out of the box they both shoot the new .22 cal 40 grain ACE slugs within MOA at 200 yards and one hole at 50 yards. Tuning for them was a...
I’m very interested in those competitions. Since slugs are so much better I’m thinking it’s only a matter of time when these competitions start having the same number of slug events as pellet.
You are right, I am just thinking situated in my area most of the guys at my club have switched to slugs. I do believe most high powered Airgun shooters will switch to slugs. It’s just a matter of when not if.
With the majority of shooter’s going over to slugs, why isn’t there any slug classes for benchrest at Extreme Benchrest, or RMAC? Seems like pellets are becoming obsolete expect for stuff like field target and 50m benchrest. I’m interested in competing, but have not desire to buy a benchrest...
Yeah, I have a brand new scope and I’m going to set it up tomorrow. I’ll do the same test. Might have to send the current one into Athlon. I don’t think it is my gun.
Hey everyone, so I sighted in this morning and shot a bit. Decided to shoot again in the afternoon and I’m getting a 3/4” drop in POI, almost a full mill. It’s 70 degrees in the morning and 95 in the afternoon which is a big shift. Should I try another scope? This will greatly affect my score.
Just curious because that is all I use now for hunting and target shooting. I rather have a gun that I can use for both instead of buying a dedicated gun for pellets just for competition.
