I would imagine smoking and drinking is more harmful than handling lead pellets. Most all pellets/slugs these days have a coating that helps keep them from oxidizing and gives them more of a shelf life.

On those hot humid nights I don't even bother getting started before midnight, the environment is still to hot to benefit from a thermal device.

I recommend capping off the thermal during the day, accidentally getting sunlight into the sensor will destroy it.
