HAM Sniper
This afternoon I set out to see what the FX chronograph would reveal on an untouched Reximex RPA. By untouched, I mean no adjustments made after opening the case it came in from Pyramid Air. The only thing I’ve done is clean the barrel once and adjusted the rear sight to get it on target.
With 14 different weight, brand or style of pellets, I set up the chrony after inputting the data into my fx ballistics app. Refilling the 50cc reservoir after every other tin I figured that kept things as even as possible. I didn’t want any issue with getting too close to the reg pressure.
I shot through the single shot tray that does the job, but a fold out style one would be much better, after all these .177 bits are pretty small and don’t always end up facing the right way when they find themselves in the bottom of the tray. Anyway, a 5 shot string for each tin should be somewhat decent to get an idea of what these babies are doing. I did find that there could be quite a spread within the same tin. Regulator? Hammer spring? Pellet weight difference? Skirt diameter? What ever it was, not a single shot was deleted during this test. It is what it is.
I will say, the GAMO 7.9 fire tips shot the worst over the chronograph. My ears tell me the skirts were not “sealing”. The sound of the little RPA was noticeably weaker through the 5 shots. Like air was leaking around the skirts. The Apolo 9 pellets failed to even register with the chronograph on my first attempt with them. After 9 unregistered shots I gave up til the end. Even at the end it took 8 shots to get 5 registers. They did prove to shoot pretty consistent however.
I’ve already attempted to attach photos of the tins with the pellets, but a limit of 20 photos was exceeded so I’m attaching a group photo and the chrony results. You’ll see each pellet is listed on the chronograph results. Also you’ll see a whole was bored through the target box (IMac computer box) which has worked great for nearly 3 years now.
In total, I fired 79 shots through the RPA and made a pattern not much bigger than an inch and a half.
