Yesterday, I grabbed a few tins of pellets in .177 to test groups while in a seated and rested position while using the standard open sights. The fiber optic sights cover the bullseye at 11 yards (10M) on my Dirty Bird targets. IMG_2890.webp

The weather was warm (70-75 degrees) with a light periodic breeze right to left. I’d guess only a couple miles per hour at most.

At this distance they all would slay a weary chipmunk, squirrel or pest bird, but one or two did stand out.

The first up was the 10.34 gr JSB Hades. While not terrible they were one of the wider groups. Like I said, they would all dispatch. These revealed a more vertical spread.

The next up was the FX 8.4 gr Diabolo that held a slight advantage over the Hades. Keep in mind, the bullseye on these targets are 1/2” in diameter.

Third on the docket is the 9.57gr H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme. While nearly the same as the FX on group size it does edge it out on this day and later it would do better than just edge it out.

Fourth in the rotation of projectiles are the first and only wadcutter style of the day, and those are the 8.18 gr H&N sport. These shot nearly the same as the FX and Baracudas. Being that these style are what I would need to shoot if I ever found myself competing in 10 meter I think it’s a good idea to test a few. I have a couple others but I did not use them in this comparison.

The star of the show were the 10.5 gr Benjamin single die pellets. Thankfully I have 3500 of these as I understand that Benjamin foolishly in my opinion discontinued them. Please by all means, correct me if I’m wrong. These shot a 5/16”-1/4” group of 5.

After some plinking on bottle caps I decided to throw one more group of 5 Baracudas down range and the photo speaks for itself. Yes that’s a 5 shot group with open sights and a Reximex pistol.

I’m not a serious competitive shooter as in I’m no body in the ranks, but I am seriously impressed with and love shooting this RPA. This pcp pistol is avaliable in Canada, and is one of the only ones I would consider buying, (more of a rifle guy!)
The version up here is detuned to 495fps I believe....what speeds is yours producing with those pellets, do you know? Good looking groups! 👍

I did some preliminary chrono work with a few pellets, but that’s my next exploration is to get a good batch of numbers from all the pellets I have. I gotta take a photo of all the ones I have so @CTAirgunner can twitch a little 🤣.
